Consortium Trust are seeking to appoint a Careers Advisor to support our students as they plan for their futures. Careers Advisors in special schools play a vital role in guiding students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to overcome barriers to education and employment by exploiring opporunities, building confidence, and helping individuals make informed decisions about their next steps.
This is a rewarding opportunity to empower our young people with the structure, encouragement, and belief they need to reach their full potential.
You will provide personalised support, help develop meaningful and achievable career plans, and ensure that each young person’s voice is central to the guidance process. This role involves working with employers, colleges, and training providers to create engaging and appropriate workplace experiences that are tailored to each student’s needs.
We welcome applicants who are empathetic and passionate about supporting young people, whether you are at an early stage in your career’s guidance journey, or are looking to develop further within this field. Full training and professional development opportunities are available.
The Consortium Trust demonstrates and implements safeguarding protocols in all aspects of their working practices and is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check, and this will include social media checks.
We are looking for applicants who:

can follow plans and work on their own initiative

enjoy working with young people with a range of abilities, including those with SEND (experience is helpful but not essential)

have some experience of working with individuals on a 1:1 basis – this could be in education, youth work, care, or similar settings
-
are interested in learning about post-16 and post-18 education, training, and employment pathways
-
are organised, reliable, and able to manage their time effectively
-
can work both independently and as part of a team, building positive relationships with colleagues and external partners
-
are creative, motivated, and keen to help young people develop ambitious but realistic goals
-
act with honesty, integrity, and professionalism
-
are willing to learn communication approaches such as PECS and/or Makaton – training can be provided
-
understand the importance of confidentiality, GDPR, Safeguarding, and following policies (training provided where needed)

are keen to take part in ongoing training and development opportunities.

Qualifications:
-
Grade C/4+ level of Numeracy and Literacy
-
Has a basic level of computer literacy
-
SEND experience (preferable)
A careers guidance qualification (e.g. Level 4 or Level 6 CEIAG) is desirable but not essential, we welcome applicants who are willing to work towards this qualification with our support
