Automation and Controls Engineer
Full-time and Permanent Contract

Main responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for delivering assigned projects and supporting the delivery of projects encompassing, but not limited to, the following:
· Responsible for the planning and safe delivery of assigned projects across variety of industry to budget and schedule.
· Responsible for ensuring applicable industry technical standards and best practices are applied.
· Liaison with intercompany departments as well as clients and subcontractors
· Work to recognised quality standards.
· Carry out site / offshore visits as required to survey, commission and fault find on systems.
· Understand and manage risk that will affect delivery of engineering projects
· Compliance and support with the continuous improvement of the Company's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Management.
· The incumbent must adopt a co-operative attitude towards being assigned alternative or additional duties to that which they are primarily employed.
Technical
· Develop and assist with automation control system Functional Safety requirements.
· Determine customer requirements and objectives and assist in developing specifications for projects / systems to ensure customer requirements are met.
· Specifying and purchasing PLC and HMI hardware for project requirements.
· Production of functional design specifications, software specifications and cause and effect tables.
· Preparation of Automation documentation and certification packages.
· Automation coding using Siemens Total Integration Automation (TIA) portal and other comparable PLC systems.
· Provide onshore support to Engineers/Electricians during commissioning or maintenance periods offshore and onsite.
· Preparation of Factory Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test procedures, Carry out FAT with client / Independent verification witness.
· Administration of assigned project files associated with Automation and Control Systems
· Preparation of work procedures and risk assessments
· Completion of close out reports and technical documentation.
Business Promotion and Establishment
· To carry out a support function to the establishment in all aspect of cranes, lifting and support service activities.
· When undertaking visits to site or offshore installations, promote and maintain effective communications with Client representatives and Sparrows Offshore personnel.
Engineering Development
· The position requires the incumbent to assist in the development, compliance and continuous improvement of engineering processes and the engineering development system.
Process Development
· Assist with the development of team systems and working methods.
Personnel Development
· It is expected that the candidate will attend, and actively participate in, all training provided by company, whether internally or externally provided.
· Carry out continuing professional development necessary to maintain and enhance competence in own area of responsibility.
Meetings and Reporting
· Actively contribute to meetings and discussions
· Report on financial and operation progress of assigned projects to line management.
Liaison
· Build and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with customers, sub-contractors, management, team members and other colleagues.
· Work co-operatively and productively with others to ensure planning, technical integrity and successful completion of projects.
HSEQ responsibilities
· It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
· The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.
Qualifications and experience
· HNC/HND/Degree qualified in Electrical /Control System Engineering with experience.
· Experience in coding using Siemens TIA Portal and other such comparable systems such as Mitsubishi, GE etc.
· Excellent communication skills to enable effective liaison with clients, vendors and other members of staff.
· Careful and meticulous professional and a motivated self-starter.
· Good technical writing skills, and proficient use of MS Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel etc).
Desirable
· Awareness of Functional Safety Practices as per BS 61508 / BS EN 13849 Standards.
· To have attained or working towards a professional accreditation with an appropriate institute
· Previous experience with cranes or comparable system automation coding and engineering.
· BOSIET/MIST offshore safety qualifications.
