About LKS Active
At LKS Active, we are a premier coaching provider dedicated to building confidence, connection, and personal growth for young people across Berkshire. Whether we are delivering sports coaching, fitness classes, or outdoor adventures, our philosophy remains the same: we want to inspire better people, not just better players. We pride ourselves on running purposeful, engaging, and highly progressive sessions that leave every child feeling empowered.
The Opportunity
We are on the lookout for a creative, highly responsible, and enthusiastic Outdoor Adventure Coach to lead our new 12-week "Bushcrafting Adventure" after-school programme.
Running entirely within the school’s extensive playing fields and woodland borders, you will be introducing groups of up to 15 primary school children (ages 5–11) to the brilliant basics of bushcraft, cartography, and nature connection.
The Challenge
Because we are operating on school grounds, this programme runs strictly without the use of open fires or fixed-blade bushcraft knives.
We need a coach who sees these rules not as a roadblock, but as a chance to get creative with outdoor education. You will be delivering a highly engaging curriculum using alternative skills, including:
- Building complex tarpaulin shelters.
- Teaching baseplate compass navigation and basic cartography.
- Managing plaster-cast animal tracking.
- Adapting the use of tools and crafting for a primary school environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery: Run our pre-designed, progressive 12-week outdoor curriculum, making sure it suits the cognitive and physical abilities of primary-aged kids.
- Group Management: Lead the group confidently as a lone worker, keeping the children engaged and safe using base camp strategies and clear boundary management.
- Risk Mitigation: Carry out and document dynamic risk assessments before every session to manage everyday hazards like changing weather or muddy ground.
- Resource Coordination: Look after and audit all supplied outdoor equipment and first aid kits.
- Relationship Building: Act as the friendly, professional face of the club, chatting with school admin staff and parents about how the children are getting on.
What We’re Looking For
To do well in this role, you will need a genuine passion for the outdoors and a firm but encouraging approach to keeping children focused and engaged.
Requirements:
- A minimum Level 3 qualification in Forest School Leadership, Bushcraft, or an equivalent NGB outdoor award, AND/OR 2+ years of experience delivering outdoor education programmes to children at an outdoor centre or similar setting.
- A valid 16-hour Outdoor or Paediatric First Aid certificate.
- An Enhanced DBS check (essential).
- Demonstrable experience managing primary-aged children in an educational, coaching, or outdoor setting.
Important Details Regarding Employment Status
