Mercia Design & Build Ltd is looking for an experienced and motivated Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the commercial management of projects from inception through to completion, ensuring costs are effectively controlled, commercial risks are managed, and projects are delivered successfully.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As Quantity Surveyor, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing accurate cost plans, budgets and estimates
- Managing and monitoring project costs throughout the construction process
- Procuring subcontractors and negotiating subcontract packages
- Preparing and reviewing contracts, tenders and commercial documentation
- Valuing completed works and managing interim applications
- Preparing, negotiating and agreeing final accounts
- Assessing subcontractor applications, variations and payments
- Managing variations and change control
- Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
- Producing monthly cost reports, forecasts and commercial updates
- Monitoring project performance against budgets
- Working closely with site managers, clients, consultants and subcontractors
- Supporting the successful commercial delivery of multiple projects
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date commercial records
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial procedures
- Strong commercial and financial awareness
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
- The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Confidence working with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant quantity surveying or construction software
- A full UK driving licence
DESIRABLE
The following would be advantageous:
- HNC, HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline
- Experience within residential housing and commercial construction
- Membership of RICS or progress towards chartership
