Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing nutritious and appealing meals for children in our nursery setting. This role requires a passion for food preparation, a keen eye for food safety, and the ability to work efficiently within a busy environment. The Nursery Cook will play a vital role in ensuring that our young learners receive healthy, balanced meals that meet dietary requirements and promote their well-being. The hours are 9.00am to 1.00pm Mondays and 10.00 am to 1.00 Tuesday to Friday term time would be considered if needed.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook daily meals and snacks suitable for children, adhering to nutritional guidelines and dietary restrictions
- Plan menus in collaboration with nursery management, ensuring variety and nutritional balance
- Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in all aspects of food preparation and storage
- Organise the kitchen area to ensure cleanliness, safety, and efficiency at all times
- Monitor stock levels and place orders for ingredients as needed to ensure continuous meal provision
- Assist with serving meals to children in a friendly and caring manner
- Follow all health and safety regulations, including food handling procedures and allergen management
- Keep accurate records of meal preparations, dietary requirements, and any incidents or concerns related to food safety
Experience
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles, preferably within a childcare or nursery setting, but not essential.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices in kitchen hygiene
- Experience with meal planning and preparation for children with special dietary needs is desirable
- Previous experience working in a restaurant or catering environment is advantageous but not essential
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and safety
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage time effectively during busy periods
