From the Sports Field to the Classroom
The Supply Room is recruiting Teaching Assistants for schools in Reading, with a particular interest in candidates who have a background in sports coaching, PE, youth work or behaviour support.
This is a genuine Teaching Assistant role within a school, but we are especially keen to hear from people who understand how to motivate young people, build trust and encourage positive behaviour through sport and teamwork.
If you are a sports coach who enjoys working with children and wants to develop your career beyond the sports environment, this could be an excellent opportunity to transfer your existing skills into education.
What Will You Do?
You will become part of the school's support team, working alongside teachers to help pupils participate in lessons and make progress. Depending on the setting, you may provide individual support, work with small groups or assist within the classroom.
A key part of the role will be helping pupils develop confidence, communication, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
Your experience of managing groups, setting boundaries, encouraging teamwork and keeping young people motivated can be extremely valuable, particularly when supporting pupils with SEND or challenging behaviour.
Who Would Suit This Role?
We are particularly interested in hearing from:
- Sports coaches and PE instructors
- Football, rugby, basketball and other sports coaches
- Youth workers and activity leaders
- Behaviour or mentoring professionals
- Graduates with an interest in working with young people
- Candidates with previous experience supporting children with SEND
You don't need to have worked as a Teaching Assistant previously. If you can engage young people, remain calm under pressure and act as a positive role model, we want to hear from you.
You will need to be reliable, punctual, available Monday–Friday and genuinely interested in developing a long-term career within education.
The role is initially offered on a fixed-term basis, with the possibility of moving into a permanent school position for candidates who prove to be a strong match.
Ready to turn your coaching experience into a rewarding career in education? Apply today to become a Teaching Assistant in Reading.
