Role purpose
We are a fast growing group of family owned dental practices and are therefore looking for a newly created role of Dental Compliance Manager.
The Compliance Manager owns regulatory and clinical governance compliance across all practices in the group. The role ensures every site consistently meets the standards of the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the General Dental Council (GDC), NHS England (where applicable) and all statutory health, safety and information governance obligations. Working across sites, the postholder builds a single, auditable compliance framework, drives continuous improvement, and keeps the group inspection-ready at all times.
Key responsibilities
Regulatory compliance
- Maintain group-wide compliance with CQC Fundamental Standards and the single assessment framework, ensuring every registered location is inspection-ready.
- Ensure adherence to the GDC Standards for the Dental Team across all clinical and support staff.
- Recruitment related compliance
Infection prevention, radiation and health & safety
- Ensure decontamination and infection prevention meet HTM 01-05 across every site, including audit schedules and equipment validation.
- Oversee dental radiography compliance under IR(ME)R 2017 and the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017, including RPA/RPS arrangements, equipment testing and training records.
- Maintain compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, COSHH (including mercury and chemical agents), RIDDOR reporting and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
- Manage risk assessments, safety audits and remedial-action tracking across the estate.
Governance, policy and audit
- Develop, maintain and version-control a single library of policies, protocols and SOPs for all practices.
- Design and run a rolling programme of internal audits (clinical, IPC, radiography, record-keeping, safeguarding) and track findings to closure.
- Lead significant-event and incident reporting, root-cause analysis and shared learning across sites.
- Oversee information governance and UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018 compliance, covering patient records, consent and data security.
People, training and culture
- Ensure safeguarding (adults and children), mandatory training and CPD compliance are current and evidenced group-wide.
- Verify GDC registration, indemnity, DBS checks and right-to-work for all clinical staff.
- Coach practice managers and compliance leads, embedding a consistent culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
Person specification
Essential
- Proven compliance, quality or governance experience in a dental, primary care or healthcare setting.
- Strong working knowledge of CQC requirements, GDC standards, HTM 01-05, IR(ME)R/IRR and health & safety legislation.
- Experience managing compliance across multiple sites or a regulated network.
- Confident with audit, risk management and policy development.
- Excellent organisation, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Willingness to travel between practices.
Desirable
- Relevant qualification in quality, governance or health & safety (e.g. NEBOSH/IOSH), or a clinical dental background (e.g. registered dental nurse with post-registration qualifications).
- Track record of preparing practices for CQC inspection with strong outcomes.
- Familiarity with compliance software and digital audit tools.
