FTE Salary Range: NJC Grade I Pt 18 - 20; £34,434 - £36,363
Actual Salary Range: £30,642 - £32,359 (Pro Rata)
Contract Type: Permanent, full time, term time only (39 weeks per year)
Contract Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

About the role
The GAIL is seeking a dedicated and experienced Pastoral Manager to lead and develop our pastoral provision. Working closely with the Leadership Team, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, improving attendance, and supporting pupils—particularly those with additional needs—to engage successfully in school life.
You will lead pastoral interventions, develop individual behaviour support plans, and work collaboratively with staff, families and external professionals to ensure the best outcomes for our pupils. The role also forms part of the school’s safeguarding team and has responsibility for leading positive handling practice within the academy.
Key Responsibilities-
Lead the implementation and development of high-quality pastoral care across the academy

Monitor behaviour and attendance, working closely with teaching staff and leaders

Design and deliver targeted pastoral and emotional literacy interventions

Develop and evaluate individual behaviour support plans

Support pupils with higher levels of need to access learning and school life successfully

Analyse data to track the impact of interventions and inform next steps

Provide advice, guidance and training to staff on pastoral strategies

Work in partnership with parents, carers and external agencies

Contribute actively to safeguarding practice and promote pupil welfare at all times
About the successful candidate
We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working with autistic pupils and a strong understanding of additional needs

Is committed to inclusion, safeguarding and improving outcomes for all learners

Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Can use data effectively to evaluate and improve pastoral provision

Demonstrates leadership, initiative and the ability to work calmly under pressure

Shares our values and belief in the potential of every young person
Essential:
-
GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths at Level 2 or above
-
Experience supporting pupils’ wellbeing and behaviour in an education or similar setting
Desirable:
-
Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience
-
Safeguarding training (Level 3 or above)
-
Experience delivering training or leading whole-school initiatives
-
De-escalation or physical intervention training
About the School
Gloucestershire Academy for Inspirational Learning is a specialist school for 200 pupils aged 4-16 opening at the start of 2027, with pupils phasing into the school across three years.
The school’s designation is Moderate and Additional Learning Difficulties (MALD) and will cater for autistic pupils, those with speech and language differences, SEMH and those with learning differences in their cognitive profiles.
The school will be based in the Wheatridge area of Gloucestershire in a brand-new purpose-built building with outstanding facilities specifically tailored for SEND learners.
