Job Summary
About us
Vortex is a growing electrical contractor delivering commercial and domestic electrical services across Kent, London and the South East. We work with Facilities Management providers, managing agents, main contractors and commercial end clients — from one-off remedial works through to planned maintenance programmes and long-term account work.
We're now looking for a Business Development Executive to help us win more of it.
The role
This is a hands-on business development role with real ownership. You'll look after the clients we already have, go out and find the ones we don't, and turn enquiries and quotations into ongoing work.
You'll sit close to our engineering team, so you'll always know what we can deliver, when, and at what price — and you'll have the support to say yes with confidence.
What you'll be doing
Winning new business
- Identify and approach new clients across Kent, London and the South East
- Make outbound calls, follow up leads and chase enquiries through to quotation
- Follow up quotations to maximise conversion
- Research new markets, sectors and companies for Vortex to target
Growing existing accounts
- Build and maintain relationships with FM companies, property managers, contractors and commercial clients
- Manage clients from first contact through to job completion
- Spot opportunities to upsell additional electrical services
- Develop long-term accounts and secure recurring, contracted work
Supporting the commercial process
- Complete PQQs and supplier onboarding
- Assist with tender submissions and procurement opportunities
- Work with our engineers to coordinate quotations and works
- Keep accurate records of leads, opportunities, quotations and client communications
What you'll be selling
A full range of electrical services, including:
- EICRs (Electrical Installation Condition Reports)
- Electrical remedial works
- Reactive electrical maintenance
- Planned electrical works and PPM
- Fault finding
- General electrical installations
- Commercial electrical services
Full training on our services and processes will be provided — you don't need to know your way around a distribution board on day one, but you will need to be curious enough to learn.
About you
You're confident on the phone and in person, comfortable picking up the phone to someone who isn't expecting your call, and naturally good at building rapport. You're organised enough to juggle a pipeline of live opportunities without letting any of them go cold, and commercially minded enough to care about the numbers at the end of the month.
You'll need:
- Previous sales experience
- A professional telephone manner and strong written communication
- Confidence with email, Microsoft Office and CRM/business systems
- Comfort with administrative work — PQQs, tenders and quotations
- The ability to work independently as part of a small, growing team
- A full UK driving licence
Nice to have (but not essential):
- Experience in the electrical, construction, FM, property or wider trade sectors
- Familiarity with tender portals and procurement processes
What we offer
- Basic Salary, plus [commission structure]
- Vehicle mileage allowance
- Pension, holiday entitlement, other benefits
- Hours, e.g. Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm
- Training on our services and systems
- Genuine scope to shape the role and grow with the business
