Job Summary
KLR Rail & Construction Services Ltd is seeking experienced Tree Surgeons to join our Vegetation Management team, working on rail-side clearance contracts across the UK. This role involves felling, pruning, and clearing vegetation along the railway, often during possessions or night shifts, to support the safe and efficient running of the network.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out tree felling, pruning, and vegetation clearance along rail-side and off-track areas
- Operate chainsaws and climbing equipment safely and in line with industry standards
- Work within possessions, adhering to all railway safety procedures (COSS/PTS protocols)
- Assist with chipping, log removal, and site clean-up
- Work as part of a team to meet project deadlines
- Report hazards, near misses, or safety concerns to site supervisors
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order
Experience:
- Proven experience as a tree surgeon/climber or ground operative (essential)
- Experience working within a railway or utility environment (desirable)
- Comfortable working at height and using climbing/rigging techniques
- Experience working night shifts or in possession environments (desirable)
- Team player with a strong understanding of on-site health & safety
Requirements:
- Valid PTS (Personal Track Safety) certificate — essential
- NPTC/City & Guilds Level 2/3 in Arboriculture (or equivalent)
- Chainsaw tickets: CS30, CS31, CS38/39 (as applicable)
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to work night shifts and within possessions
- Comfortable working at height and in outdoor/all-weather conditions
- Good understanding of health & safety procedures on and around the railway
- Right to work in the UK
Pay: From £20.00 per hour
