We are preparing to open a new independent pottery and creative studio in Glasgow and are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic university student studying ceramics, ceramic design, fine art or a related subject to join us as a part-time Studio Assistant.
This is an exciting opportunity to become involved with a new creative business from the beginning and gain practical experience in running a pottery studio, working with customers and supporting pottery classes and creative workshops.
About the role
The role will be varied and hands-on. You will help with the day-to-day running of the studio and support classes and events.
Responsibilities may include:
- Helping prepare the studio before classes and workshops
- Preparing clay, tools and materials
- Helping customers during pottery sessions
- Supporting beginner pottery classes
- Demonstrating basic ceramic techniques where appropriate and within your experience
- Assisting customers with hand-building and decorating
- Preparing and organising work for drying and firing
- Helping with glazing and studio processes
- Cleaning and maintaining wheels, benches and equipment
- Organising shelves and customer work
- Helping prepare the studio for evening events
- Supporting creative social evenings and private bookings
- Helping create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for customers
- Assisting with general studio administration and organisation
As the business develops, there may be opportunities for the successful candidate to take on more responsibility supporting and potentially assisting with pottery courses and workshops, subject to experience, training and the appropriate arrangements.
