Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and physically capable Yard Worker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting warehouse operations, handling materials, and maintaining a safe and organised yard environment. Previous experience in warehouse management or construction is advantageous, along with mechanical knowledge and proficiency in materials handling. This role involves heavy lifting and the operation of equipment such as forklifts, requiring a proactive approach to safety and efficiency.
Duties
- Load and unload goods using appropriate equipment, including forklifts where qualified
- Assist with shipping and receiving activities, ensuring accurate documentation and placement of materials
- Handle materials safely within the yard, adhering to health and safety standards
- Operate warehouse management systems to track inventory movements and stock levels
- Support in organising the yard space for optimal workflow and safety compliance
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any faults or issues
- Assist with general construction tasks as needed, applying mechanical knowledge where applicable
- Ensure the yard remains clean, organised, and free from hazards at all times
Requirements
- Experience in warehouse operations or construction environments is desirable
- Proficiency in operating forklifts (certification preferred)
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems is advantageous
- Ability to handle heavy loads safely and efficiently
- Mechanical aptitude or understanding of basic machinery is beneficial
- Experience in materials handling, shipping & receiving processes, or related tasks
- Physical fitness to perform manual labour including lifting, loading, and unloading heavy items
- Good organisational skills with attention to safety protocols
- Previous experience with warehouse management systems is a plus
