The Role
We're looking for a dynamic Product Sales & Business Development Manager to join the Howden Compressors Sales & Proposals team in Renfrew, Glasgow.
This is a high-impact commercial role focused on securing complex, high-value compressor package projects across global Energy and Industrial markets. The successful candidate will join a large packaging division specialising in Screw and Turbo Compressor technology, working alongside Product Sales Managers and a bid team of professionals, while collaborating with a global network of Business Development Managers across Chart/Howden.
Rather than traditional business development, the focus of the role is leading the full proposal and bid process for complex Screw and Turbo Compressor packages through to purchase order placement. You will act as the key interface between customers and internal stakeholders, developing winning technical and commercial solutions while coordinating engineering, proposals, procurement, project management and operations teams. Howden's compressor technologies support a wide range of applications across Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Wastewater and Industrial markets worldwide.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys technical solution selling, managing complex bids, and working directly with EPCs, licensors, end users and contractors on major industrial projects. Travel is ad hoc rather than constant and is typically around 20-30%, with assigned territories and customer responsibility determined upon joining the business.

What Will You Do?
Lead the full techno-commercial bid process for complex Screw and Turbo Compressor Packageopportunities, from initial enquiry and qualification through to purchase order placement.
Develop winning technical and commercial proposals that align customer requirements with Howden'scapabilities, ensuring solutions are both technically robust and commercially competitive.
Act as the primary customer interface throughout the proposal process, building strong relationships withEPC contractors, end users, licensors and consultants.
Identify, qualify and pursue strategic project opportunities across Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Wastewaterand Industrial markets.
Coordinate and lead cross-functional bid teams including Proposal Engineering, Engineering,Procurement, Quality, Project Management and Operations.
Define project scope, evaluate commercial and technical risk, and develop mitigation strategies tomaximise win probability and profitability.
Review customer specifications, tender documentation and contractual requirements to ensurecompliance and successful proposal execution.
Engage with sub-vendors and suppliers to obtain competitive technical and commercial quotations.
Present technical and commercial solutions to customers and participate in clarification meetings,negotiations and bid reviews.
Support regional Business Development Managers in developing customer relationships, increasingmarket visibility and identifying future project opportunities.
Contribute to annual order intake and growth objectives across the Howdenportfolio.
What do you bring?
An ideal candidate would likely have the following profile:
Experience selling rotating equipment, engineered packages or process equipment into Energy and/orIndustrial markets.
Demonstrable experience leading complex technical bids, tenders and techno-commercial proposals fromenquiry through to contract award.
Experience engaging with EPC contractors, end-users, process licensors and consultants on new-build ormajor capital projects.
Strong commercial acumen, including scope definition, pricing strategy, risk assessment and contractnegotiation.
Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
The ability to coordinate and influence cross-functional teams including Engineering, ProposalEngineering, Procurement, Quality and Operations.
A structured approach to problem solving, with the ability to balance technical requirements withcommercial objectives.
Experience operating in long-cycle, high-value project sales environments.
