We are recruiting a Temp Sous Chef to join a busy casual dining venue in Reigate. This is a temporary position paying £17.37 per hour. The role is ideal for an experienced Sous Chef seeking varied shifts, a supportive team environment, and the chance to maintain high standards in a well‑established casual dining setting.
As a Temp Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef and lead the kitchen team during service. Key responsibilities include:
Assisting with the preparation, cooking, and presentation of menu items to the venue’s quality and portion standards.
Supervising and motivating junior kitchen staff, ensuring smooth service and clear communication.
Overseeing kitchen operations in the Head Chef’s absence, including delegation and timing across sections.
Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, health and safety, and kitchen organisation at all times.
Supporting stock control, receiving deliveries, and assisting with basic ordering and waste management.
Contributing to menu execution, consistency, and any mise en place required for service.
Lead by example to deliver consistent, well‑executed dishes and maintain section quality.
Provide clear direction to junior staff and maintain a positive, professional kitchen culture.
Be flexible with shift patterns including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays as required by the business.
Ensure compliance with recipes, presentation guidelines, portion control, and allergen labelling.
Proven experience as a Sous Chef or senior chef role within a casual dining, pub, or restaurant environment.
Level 2 Food Hygiene and Allergen Awareness (or equivalent) preferred.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to different teams and service styles.
Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain standards under pressure during busy service periods.
