Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Tenancy Support Worker to assist individuals and families in maintaining their tenancies and improving their housing stability. This role involves providing practical support, guidance, and advocacy to empower tenants to manage their housing responsibilities effectively. The ideal candidate will possess strong negotiation skills, experience with property management software such as Yardi, and a commitment to fostering positive tenant relationships. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference within the community by supporting vulnerable populations in securing and sustaining suitable accommodation.
Duties
- Provide personalised support to tenants, including advice on tenancy rights and responsibilities.
- Assist tenants with rent payments, arrears management, and budgeting to promote financial stability.
- Conduct regular visits to tenants’ homes to assess needs and address any issues related to tenancy or property maintenance.
- Liaise with landlords, local authorities, and service providers to coordinate support services and resolve tenancy disputes.
- Utilise Yardi or similar property management systems for record-keeping, rent collection, and reporting purposes.
- Negotiate lease agreements, extensions, or modifications on behalf of tenants where appropriate.
- Advocate for tenants’ needs within the housing sector, ensuring they receive fair treatment and access to necessary resources.
- Organise workshops or information sessions on tenancy rights, budgeting skills, and other relevant topics.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all interactions with tenants and stakeholders in compliance with organisational policies.
Experience
- Proven experience working within housing support, social work, or related fields.
- Familiarity with tenancy legislation and housing regulations is desirable.
- Experience using property management software such as Yardi is highly advantageous.
- Strong negotiation skills with the ability to mediate conflicts effectively.
- Excellent organisational skills with the capacity to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Compassionate approach combined with professional integrity when working with vulnerable individuals.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
