ROLE SUMMARY:
The HGV Driver for Waste Experts business plays a crucial role in the efficient and safe transportation of waste materials to designated disposal sites. Responsible for operating heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) in compliance with company policies and relevant regulations, the driver ensures timely collection and delivery of waste while adhering to driver regs & safety protocols. Duties include, Pre and Post use vehicle checks reporting of any defects in a timely and prompt manor, conducting pre-trip & Load security inspections, loading and unloading waste materials, navigating routes efficiently, App and data detail and maintaining accurate records of deliveries. The HGV Driver must possess excellent driving skills, a strong understanding of road safety regulations, and the ability to work independently while maintaining a commitment to environmental sustainability and waste management standards.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
- To promote the high quality service offering of the Company with customers, suppliers and the general public as a front-line representative of the business.
- To take all measures that are reasonably practicable and safe to ensure that all deliveries and collections are completed effectively and efficiently, meeting the needs and requirements of the business and the customer. To highlight any issues preventing this to the transport team in a timely manner and work with the team and other departments to address the matter appropriately.
- To maintain an excellent level of communication with all other departments, customers and the general public to maximise added value and all sales opportunities from the customer base.
- Comply with all relevant legislation in relation to driver hours, tachograph operation and vehicle safety checks.
- To maintain professional and appropriate self-presentation, including but not limited to uniform and all company equipment at all times.
- Responsibility for site environmental compliance and management of the site to specific permit conditions with particular emphasis on waste controls and monitoring of emissions.
- Responsible for site security and resource physical protection of all company property, including but not limited to Company Vehicles, IT equipment, documentation, uniform etc. ensuring that it is maintained in good condition and working order and is kept as securely as possible.
- Provide regular feedback to Transport Planner on vehicle performance and utilisation to encourage a collaborative approach to improvement of expected service levels.
- To act in such a way as to consistently protect ones own health and safety as well as that of others. To follow all Company risk assessments, safe operating procedure and Health and Safety Policy. To follow all H&S guidance and regulatory guidance.
- To ensure that all licenses are maintained and kept up to date with no more than 6 penalty points at any one time. Drivers are responsible for the maintenance of all relevant qualifications for the role i.e. CPC, ADR, Moffat, and any other qualification as required by law for the role.
- To work with other departments to maximise all sales opportunities across the customer base, generating new business and new customer leads where possible to add value.
- Any other reasonable tasks within your capabilities as requested by management with an understanding that working hours are what is required to get the job done and additional time may be required to meet the requirements. Flexibility here is required.
