Job Description
We are seeking a proactive, technically strong mid-level Test Engineer who takes the
initiative to find problems before our customers do. The ideal candidate does not wait
to be told what to test; they dig into how the product works, question assumptions,
and actively look for the gaps, edge cases and risks others miss.
Strong debugging ability is at the heart of this role. When something fails, we want an
engineer who investigates it to root cause – reproducing the issue, reading the logs,
isolating the behaviour and handing developers clear, actionable detail – rather than
simply logging a symptom and moving on.
This is a hands-on role for someone with genuine technical curiosity and drive. You will
own your areas of testing end to end, take improvements forward on your own
initiative, and work closely with developers to raise the quality and reliability of
Nextbase products.
Responsibilities
- Design, write and execute test cases across manual and, where applicable, automated testing
- Investigate failures thoroughly – reproduce issues, analyse logs, isolate root cause and give developers clear, actionable detail
- Proactively identify gaps in test coverage, edge cases and risks, and raise them early
- Take ownership of assigned features or areas end to end, without needing constant direction
- Debug across the relevant stack (device, firmware, app and cloud as applicable) using appropriate tools and techniques
- Raise well-documented, reproducible defects with clear steps, logs and supporting evidence
- Suggest and drive improvements to test approaches, tooling and processes on your own initiative
- Work closely with developers to understand changes, verify fixes and confirm root causes are resolved
- Keep test documentation and results accurate, clear and up to date
Skills
- Solid hands-on software testing experience at a mid level
- Strong debugging and fault-finding skills, with a track record of getting to root cause
- Technical aptitude – comfortable with logs, debugging tools and understanding how systems work under the hood
- A proactive, self-starting attitude – takes initiative without waiting to be told
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with agile and scrum practices
- Experience with test automation and/or scripting (desirable)
- A curious, methodical and investigative mindset
- Experience in delivery of consumer electronic projects (software and hardware)/dash cams
