Job Overview
Cognition Creative Learning CIC is looking for an enthusiastic and confident STEM Education Assistant to join our growing team.
The role will primarily involve supporting and delivering our after-school STEM clubs in schools. Following training and induction, the successful candidate will be expected to independently lead planned sessions using Cognition's activities, equipment and resources.
You do not need to be a robotics or coding expert. Full training will be provided. We are looking for someone who is confident working with children, enjoys practical learning and can use their initiative to problem solve and adapt when things do not go to plan.
Responsibilities
- Support and independently deliver engaging STEM, robotics, coding and practical science sessions.
- Create a positive, inclusive and well-managed learning environment. Prioritising student safety and wellbeing through positive behaviour management techniques.
- Encourage children to explore, problem solve and build confidence.
- Adapt support and explanations to meet the differing needs and abilities of children.
- Use initiative and practical problem-solving skills to respond calmly to challenges.
- Build positive and professional relationships with children, school staff and colleagues.
- Safely set up, use and pack away equipment and resources.
- Follow Cognition's safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Requirements
Essential:
- Current or recent experience of working directly with children.
- Confidence managing groups of primary-aged children.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for a session.
- Strong communication and practical problem-solving skills.
- Reliable, organised and able to use initiative.
- Willingness to learn how to use new technology and STEM equipment.
- Full driving license and your own transport.
- A clear commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Experience of STEM, robotics, coding, LEGO Education or working with children with SEND would be an advantage but is not essential.
