Driver Job Description
Working Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours per week between 6am and 4pm
Salary: £105.62 per day plus a bonus of £10 per tonne collected (split with a drivers assistant if you have one)

Job Summary
Applicants should be aware that the physical and manual aspects of this role are a significant and essential part of the position.
The Driver will be responsible for safely and efficiently collecting, loading, transporting and unloading textile items. This includes collections from charity shops, private properties, waste amenity sites, and standalone clothing banks located on streets and in car parks.
This is a highly manual and physically demanding role and should not be considered a driving-only position. A significant part of the working day will involve the manual handling, lifting, carrying, loading and unloading of textile collection bags, which can weigh up to 30kg. The role requires the employee to repeatedly lift and move heavy bags throughout the working day, often in different environments and locations.
The role requires a good level of physical fitness, and you must be comfortable working outdoors and in a variety of environments, including streets, car parks, charity shops, private properties and waste amenity sites.
The Driver must be able to manage collection schedules effectively while maintaining safe working practices and ensuring that all collections are completed within the required timescales.
Performance Objectives
- Adhere to all Health & Safety guidelines across retail shops and waste amenity sites, recognising that each location may have its own induction procedures.
- Represent the company in a professional and positive manner when interacting with shop managers, staff, and waste site employees.
- Maintain courteous, diplomatic, and cooperative working relationships with colleagues, partners, and suppliers at all times.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain high service delivery standards in line with company policy to support contract retention.
- Complete daily collections within designated timeframes, with flexibility to work beyond standard hours when required to meet customer commitments.
- Safely handle textiles during loading and unloading to ensure items remain in good condition.
- Ensure all loads are securely and safely stowed.
- Provide accurate reports of completed activities and promptly communicate any issues to the line manager.
- Maintain up-to-date logbooks and issue collection/delivery receipts as required.
- Wear provided protective clothing and footwear at all times.
- Take responsibility for personal and others’ Health & Safety, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines.
- Keep the vehicle clean, roadworthy, and comfortable to operate.
- Report any vehicle faults or concerns to the line manager without delay.
- Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role and support wider organisational needs as required.
- Work flexibly, including occasional weekend work when necessary.
- Comply with tachograph regulations at all times (where applicable).
- Ensure accurate collection data is recorded and shared with suppliers and the office.
- Effectively manage and support a driver’s assistant where applicable.
Driver Requirements
- Physically fit and capable of heavy lifting and manual handling.
- Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively.
- Friendly, approachable, and professional, particularly when interacting with charity shop staff, volunteers, and site employees.
- Valid driving licence.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Proof of right to work.
- CPC qualification (where applicable).
