Cafe Assistant / Kitchen Assistant (Part-Time)Job Summary
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic Cafe Assistant / Kitchen Assistant to join our team at our busy city centre café.
This is a varied role, with one weekday each week covering the Chef's day off by preparing and serving our café menu. Every Saturday, you will work alongside our Chef from 9:00am to 2:00pm, assisting with food preparation and service during one of our busiest trading periods. Outside of these kitchen duties, you will work front of house, serving customers, preparing drinks, operating the till and helping to ensure the café runs smoothly.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both cooking and customer service and is looking for a varied role within a friendly, fast-paced café environment.
Duties
- Cover the Chef's day off by preparing and serving the café menu.
- Assist the Chef on Saturdays with food preparation and service.
- Prepare and cook fresh menu items to a consistently high standard.
- Ensure all food is prepared in line with food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Prepare hot and cold drinks, including barista-style coffees (training can be provided if required).
- Welcome customers, take orders and provide excellent customer service.
- Operate the till and process customer payments.
- Keep the kitchen and front-of-house areas clean, organised and well stocked.
- Restock ingredients, drinks and café supplies as needed.
- Work closely with the team to ensure the café runs efficiently.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and maintain high standards of cleanliness.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience working in a café, kitchen or hospitality environment.
- Confidence preparing and cooking fresh food independently.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and food safety practices.
- A friendly, approachable and customer-focused attitude.
- The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to remain calm during busy periods.
- Reliable, punctual and flexible.
- A positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed.

- Weekday hours: Approximately 8:30am – 4:30pm.
