Herdsperson – Near Glastonbury
We’re looking for a Herdsperson with a strong passion for animal health and welfare to join our dairy team in a large-scale farming and processing business near Glastonbury.
The Business
- 800 Holstein Friesian cows
- Müller Direct contract
- Milking 3x daily on a 60-point rotary
- In-house forage production
The Role:
- Focused on cow health and fertility within a progressive dairy team
- Shared team responsibilities with opportunities to develop herd management and husbandry skills
Key responsibilities
- Manage cow health and fertility, including AI and vet visits
- Support mobility management and provide first-aid foot trimming cover
- Assist with routine farm work, including milking and calf feeding
- Take part in an out-of-hours/on-call rota
- Use Uniform Agri & Dataflow software
- Provide relief TMR feeding cover where required
Ideal candidate
- Team-oriented with strong communication skills
- Good understanding of dairy cow health and welfare
- Experience with high-performance herds
- AI certified with recent practical experience (preferred)
- Foot trimming skills or willingness to learn (preferred)
- Experience in milking and calf feeding
- Keen to develop professionally and contribute to the team
- Full UK driving licence essential
- Telehandler certificate preferred
- Ideal for someone looking to build experience in a large-scale, progressive dairy operation
