Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and versatile Trained Carpenter and General Maintenance Person to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and fabrication tasks across our facilities. The majority of buildings are of timber construction and you expertise in carpentry, joinery and general construction is the key skill we are recruiting for to compliment our existing Maintenance team and contractors, in plumbing and electrical, however knowledge of plumbing and basic electrical work, and is desirable to ensure that our buildings and equipment remain in excellent condition. This position offers an exciting opportunity to apply your technical skills in a fast-paced environment while contributing to the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of our properties.
Duties
- Execute carpentry and joinery projects, on building structures including framing, inserting and/or replacing windows and doors and custom woodwork with precision and attention to detail
- Conduct roofing repairs and maintenance to ensure weatherproofing and structural integrity
- Executing carpentry and joinery projects for internal framing and cabinet making building beds, built in cupboards and tables with precision and attention to detail
- Performing external grounds carpentry and joinery projects maintaining, repairing and installing wooden walkways, stairs, handrails and other external fixtures and fittings
- Use hand tools and power tools to perform repairs, installations, and fabrication tasks efficiently
- Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs and prioritize repairs accordingly
- Collaborate with team members on larger projects requiring fabrication or assembly of components
- Perform basic plumbing repairs such as unblocking trains, installing fixtures, fixing small leaks and maintaining water systems
- Carry out masonry work including bricklaying, patching walls, and concrete repairs
- Assist with electrical tasks such as wiring, troubleshooting electrical issues, and installing lighting fixtures
- Handle heavy lifting safely when moving materials or equipment around the facility
- Perform construction painting to maintain the appearance and protection of surfaces
Skills
- Proven experience as a trained carpenter with strong skills in fabrication, assembly, carpentry, joinery, roofing, masonry, plumbing, electrical work, and construction painting
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment used in construction and maintenance tasks
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently in various environments
- Knowledge of safety protocols related to construction sites and maintenance operations
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and reporting on project status
- Relevant certifications or training in electrical work or other specialized trades are highly desirable
