Technical & Compliance Manager Solidcor — Fire Door Manufacturing
| Unit 5 Sheepbridge Lane, Chesterfield, S41 9RX | Note: the factory is planned to relocate to a new site in Bolsover in 2027.
About the role
We’re looking for a Technical & Compliance Manager to own the day-to-day technical and regulatory backbone of our fire door manufacturing operation
Keeping certifications current, technical documentation sharp, and the factory and our customers properly supported. We want this person to become the business’s leader on compliance and regulation
Ahead of the competition, with a genuine command of where the regulatory landscape and world-class developments in the field are heading. You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll work closely with our Operations Director, who’s personally run this function for years (including our most recent FPC audit) and will support you through your first audits and the wider technical landscape as you build your depth — and with our Quality Manager and Quality team day to day.
This is a genuine long-term technical career, with real scope to grow into full ownership of the function over time. What you’ll be doing Producing technical drawings (AutoCAD or similar) and detailed technical specifications for our fire door products Working with the Quality Manager to embed quality throughout the factory, including supplying the drawings and specs the production line builds against.
Keeping certifications and third-party accreditations up to date, tracking renewal and audit deadlines Building and maintaining clear, logical folder and file structures for technical and certification documentation Supporting, and over time co-leading factory audits (FPC and others) alongside the Operations Director and Quality Manager Acting as the technical point of contact for customers — mainly by phone, with site visits for quality/technical issues — and supporting the sales team with technical input.
Managing technical documentation through product and system changes, keeping the “golden thread” current and audit-ready Keeping up to date with UK fire safety and construction product regulations (UKCA marking, fire/smoke/security/weather testing standards, Building Safety Act, and related standards) and flagging what changes mean for us Attending and witnessing product tests (fire, smoke, security, weather, and other final tests) at test houses — including new test programmes across a number of different test houses
Building and maintaining relationships with key industry contacts and subject matter experts, using them as an ongoing source of learning and staying close to developments in the field
Delivering R&D and innovation projects initiated by the Operations Director and MD — turning their direction into reality through technical work, testing, and specification Becoming, over time, the go-to source of technical and regulatory knowledge across the business
What we’re looking for experience in a technical, quality, or compliance role within a manufacturing environment — construction products, fire/security products, glazing, or a similar regulated sector; deep fire door experience is a bonus, not a requirement .
Comfortable producing technical drawings (AutoCAD or similar) and writing detailed technical specifications.
Highly detail-driven and organised — able to focus and absorb detailed regulation, and build clear, logical documentation and file structures
Genuinely interested in regulation and standards, wanting to understand the “why”, not just follow a checklist
Strong, positive communicator — equally comfortable with customers (phone and site visits), sales colleagues, and production teams
Able to take direction from senior leadership and turn it into a concrete project plan, then deliver against it
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, juggling several things at once Willing to put in the hard graft this role sometimes demands — matched by strong reward Ambition to grow into fuller ownership of the function over time
No specific fire safety qualification is required to start — we’ll invest in getting you there.
What you’ll get
£50,000–£60,000 depending on experience
Direct mentoring from our Operations Director, including structured shadowing through upcoming audits
Training and progression tailored to you — specific schemes and qualifications considered based on your development needs
A genuine growth path toward senior ownership of technical and compliance as you build expertise
Other benefits — pension, bonus, holiday, etc.
Why this role
You won’t be the lone compliance person carrying full personal exposure for certification and audits — you’re backed by an Operations Director who’s done this himself and a full Quality team you’ll work alongside every day.
It’s genuine hard graft at times — regulation doesn’t stand still, and neither will you — but it’s rewarded well, and you’ll never be tackling it alone.
