Area Cleaning Supervisor / Mobile Support Cleaner
Location: Essex and surrounding areas
Salary: £15,000 - £28,000 depending on working hours
Hours: Full-time, with flexibility required around client and site needs
Reporting to: Contracts Manager
Neatwork Group is a growing facilities services business providing contract cleaning, grounds maintenance and external cleaning across Essex, London and Kent.
As we continue to grow, including taking on further school, nursery, office and commercial cleaning contracts, we are looking for a reliable, hands-on Area Cleaning Supervisor / Mobile Support Cleaner to join our team.
This is not a desk-based role and it is not a standard 9–5 role. You will be out supporting sites, covering cleaning shifts when needed, carrying out floor cleaning and deep cleaning work, helping maintain high standards and working closely with our Contracts Manager to make sure our cleaning contracts run properly.
The Role
A major part of this role will involve personally covering cleaning shifts when cleaners are absent, on holiday or when a site needs extra support.
You will also support our existing sites with hands-on cleaning and operational support, including:
- Cover cleaning shifts across our client sites
- Supporting schools, nurseries, offices, communal blocks and commercial sites
- Floor buffing and machine floor cleaning
- Deep cleaning floors
- Floor stripping and periodic floor care where required
- One-off deep cleans
- Site recovery cleans where standards need bringing back up
- Touch-up cleaning and resolving small issues before they become bigger problems
- Supporting new contract mobilisations
- Helping with site set-ups, stock, equipment and cleaner inductions
You must be happy to get stuck in and lead from the front. This role is suited to someone who is comfortable cleaning, supporting cleaners, speaking with clients and helping resolve day-to-day operational issues.
The role will also involve supporting the Contracts Manager with:
- Cleaner coordination
- Arranging cover where appropriate
- Speaking with cleaners about site requirements
- Carrying out site checks and cleaning audits
- Reporting issues clearly
- Following up actions
- Helping maintain consistent cleaning standards across the business
Due to the nature of contract cleaning, flexibility is essential. Some work will take place outside normal office hours, including early mornings, evenings, later shifts and short-notice cover depending on client and site needs.
You will work very closely with our Contracts Manager and will have genuine progression opportunities into further management responsibility as the business continues to grow.
Main Responsibilities
- Cover cleaning shifts across school, nursery, office, communal and commercial sites when required
- Support existing sites with hands-on cleaning work where extra help is needed
- Carry out floor buffing, machine floor cleaning, deep floor cleaning and periodic floor care
- Carry out floor stripping and other floor care tasks where required
- Carry out one-off deep cleans, site recovery cleans and periodic cleaning work
- Help arrange and coordinate cover for holiday, sickness and short-notice absences where appropriate
- Support the Contracts Manager with day-to-day site and cleaner coordination
- Carry out regular site audits, cleaning checks and quality inspections
- Identify areas where standards need improving and help take action to resolve them
- Carry out touch-up cleaning and resolve issues before they become larger problems
- Help maintain high cleaning standards across all sites
- Support new contract mobilisations, including initial cleans, staff inductions, stock, equipment and site set-up
- Train and support new cleaners on site and help maintain consistent standards
- Check cleaning equipment, floor machines, stock levels, keys, access arrangements and site documentation
- Report quality, staffing, equipment, stock or client issues clearly to the Contracts Manager
- Help deal with urgent issues, complaints and operational problems professionally
- Support cleaning staff day to day and help create a positive, reliable team culture
- Keep basic records of site visits, audits, issues found, actions taken and cover completed
- Work flexibly across our client base, including early mornings, evenings, later shifts and short-notice cover where required
About You
We are looking for someone dependable, practical and switched on. You will need to be comfortable working independently, travelling between sites, dealing with different people and taking ownership when something needs sorting.
This role would suit someone who is hands-on, confident in cleaning, happy to cover shifts, and understands that cleaning operations do not always fit into a standard 9–5 working pattern.
You should have:
- Previous commercial cleaning experience
- Experience using floor cleaning machines, such as buffers or scrubber dryers
- Experience carrying out deep floor cleaning
- Experience with floor stripping or periodic floor care would be an advantage
- Experience carrying out one-off deep cleans would be beneficial
- Experience supervising cleaners, supporting teams or running cleaning sites would be an advantage
- A strong eye for detail and pride in high cleaning standards
- The ability to step into a cleaning shift and lead from the front when required
- Confidence speaking with cleaners, clients and managers
- Good organisation skills and the ability to prioritise urgent issues
- A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle
- Flexibility to travel between sites across Essex and surrounding areas
- A willingness and ability to work flexibly, including early mornings, evenings and short-notice cover when required by client or site needs
- A positive, calm approach when dealing with pressure or short-notice issues
Experience in schools, nurseries, offices, communal cleaning or multi-site cleaning would be beneficial, but the right attitude, reliability and willingness to get stuck in is just as important.
