Portland Care Group is a growing care organisation committed to providing high-quality care and support to our residents. As our organisation continues to develop, we are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-focused Finance Assistant to join our finance team.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day running of the finance function, helping to maintain accurate financial records, process transactions and ensure that financial processes are completed efficiently and accurately.
Our finance team work in person at our premises in Bellshill, so this is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working collaboratively as part of a close-knit team.
What we are looking for – Key Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Process supplier invoices accurately and efficiently.
- Verify financial information and maintain accurate accounts payable records.
- Match invoices to purchase orders and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with suppliers and creditors to resolve invoice discrepancies and queries.
- Provide general support to ensure supplier obligations are paid accurately and on time.
Accounts Receivable
- Process sales and accounts receivable invoices.
- Record and allocate customer payments accurately.
- Monitor and maintain the aged debt ledger.
- Follow up outstanding balances to ensure payments are received within agreed terms.
- Identify and report potential bad debts or payment concerns.
Bank Reconciliations
- Complete regular bank reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded.
Data Entry & Financial Records
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Process financial transactions using the company’s accounting systems.
- Assist with the preparation of financial reports and statements.
- Ensure financial documentation is maintained accurately and securely.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Support the wider finance team with financial analysis and reporting.
- Assist with the preparation of management information as required.
- Help identify discrepancies, trends and areas requiring further investigation.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure finance processes comply with relevant financial regulations and internal procedures.
- Assist with audit and year-end requirements.
- Maintain appropriate records and supporting documentation.
General Finance Administration
- Provide administrative support to the finance team.
- Assist with filing, correspondence and maintaining finance records.
- Support other members of the finance team as required.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills Required
Knowledge
- Good understanding of basic accounting and financial principles.
- Understanding of financial processes and compliance requirements.
- Experience using accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks or similar.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of NetSuite would be desirable.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or similar role.
- Experience in accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Experience with bank reconciliations.
- Experience with payroll processing would be advantageous.
- Experience working within a busy finance environment would be beneficial.

Qualifications
- A relevant qualification or educational background in Finance, Accounting or a related subject is preferred.
- AAT, ACCA or other relevant professional qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
- Practical finance experience will also be considered.
