“Happy to talk flexible working”
About us
Following successful recruitment earlier in the year, Mole Valley District Council is expanding its small (but perfectly formed) legal team with an opportunity for a new part time litigation solicitor. Like the wider council, our legal team prides itself on its supportive and team based culture. Most of the fee earners in the legal team have significant post qualification experience and we bring our different backgrounds, careers and experiences together for the benefit of the wider council and its residents.
About you
-
You will be a qualified solicitor, barrister or member of CILEX with a current practising certificate
- Have pre and post qualification experience in litigation law, though it doesn’t matter whether your litigation background is in the public or private sectors.
Why should you join us? What’s in it for you?
Our benefits include:
-
Free onsite parking at Pippbrook
- 24 days annual leave, rising to 28 days with service, plus Bank Holidays
- Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme with employer contributions of approximately 15%
- Annual flu jabs and health checks
- Employee Assistance Programme and Mental Health First Aiders to support your wellbeing
- Training and development opportunities to support your career progression
- The opportunity to play a key role in shaping and improving our workplace environment
Hybrid working with flexibility
Most of the team like to come into the office on a weekly basis, particularly on Wednesdays, but we’re less about you driving to work and more about driving down our carbon footprint and trying to meet our pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030. If you prefer working from home, our policy enables you to do so for up to three days a week (pro rata for part time working). In the right circumstances we’re also happy to talk flexible working for something close to a fully remote role.

Closing date for applications: Midday on 31 August 2026

This is a politically restricted role.
Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
Mole Valley District Council is preparing for a major transformation through Local Government Reorganisation (LGR), which will come into effect on 1 April 2027. The aim of LGR is to create a more streamlined, efficient and locally responsive system of government that strengthens public services.
Mole Valley District Council will become part of the new East Surrey Council, which will be responsible for all local government services across the eastern part of the county.
As we move towards LGR, we want to reassure all applicants that roles linked to Mole Valley District Council will continue beyond the transition period and arrangements are in place to ensure staff transfer on their existing terms and conditions to the new East Surrey Council.
