Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the service at the beginning of its development. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the home, as well as playing a key role in preparing the service for Ofsted registration and opening.
The Registered Manager will take responsibility for developing and implementing the home's policies, procedures, safeguarding arrangements, care systems, staff processes and quality assurance framework to ensure the home operates safely and in accordance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the children's home and staff team.
- Ensure children receive safe, nurturing and high-quality care.
- Develop and implement the home's policies and procedures.
- Establish effective safeguarding, risk management and incident-reporting systems.
- Develop staff induction, training, supervision and appraisal systems.
- Support the recruitment of a safe and competent staff team.
- Develop and maintain the Statement of Purpose and operational documentation.
- Establish effective recording, monitoring and quality assurance systems.
- Ensure the home is fully prepared for Ofsted registration and inspection.
- Maintain compliance with legislation, regulations and Ofsted requirements.
- Work closely with social workers, placing authorities, families and other professionals.
- Monitor children's progress, welfare and outcomes.
- Manage complaints, incidents, safeguarding concerns and notifications appropriately.
- Lead continuous improvement and ensure learning from incidents and feedback is embedded into practice.
Requirements
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years' relevant experience working in residential childcare within the last 5 years.
- Minimum 1 year’s experience supervising or managing staff in a care role.
- Appropriate experience and knowledge of safeguarding children.
- Experience managing staff and leading a care team.
- Good understanding of children's care planning, risk management and safeguarding.
- Strong understanding of the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and Ofsted Quality Standards.
- Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
- Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures and quality assurance systems.
- Ability to demonstrate strong professional judgement and accountability.
- Must satisfy Ofsted's fitness and suitability requirements for registration.
Qualification:
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England), or an equivalent recognised qualification, or willingness/eligibility to obtain the qualification within the required regulatory timescale.
Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Registered Manager.
- Experience of establishing a new children's home.
- Experience preparing a service for Ofsted registration.
- Previous experience of Ofsted inspections.
- Experience working with children with complex needs.

Pay: £40,000.00-£63,161.93 per year
