Job Purpose
To support the efficient day-to-day operation of the warehouse and decontamination facility, including the receipt, inspection, cleaning, segregation, storage, preparation and safe disposal of medical equipment and associated waste. The role requires strict adherence to health and safety, infection prevention, environmental and waste management procedures, including relevant UK legislation and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse Operations
· Receive, unload, check and record incoming medical equipment, consumables and returned items.
· Inspect equipment for damage, contamination, faults or missing components.
· Accurately identify, label, sort and segregate equipment according to company procedures.
· Move, store and retrieve stock safely using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment.
· Prepare cleaned and approved equipment for storage, dispatch or onward distribution.
· Maintain accurate stock, equipment and waste records using manual or electronic systems.
· Keep warehouse, work areas and storage locations clean, organised and safe.
· Assist with stock checks, audits and inventory control.
Decontamination Duties
· Receive used and returned medical equipment and assess it for safe handling.
· Segregate contaminated items from clean equipment and prevent cross-contamination.
· Carry out cleaning and decontamination procedures in accordance with approved work instructions, manufacturer guidance and infection prevention requirements.
· Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
· Identify equipment that is unsuitable for reuse and report faults, damage or contamination to the appropriate supervisor.
· Ensure decontaminated equipment is correctly labelled and released only when authorised under company procedures.
· Clean and maintain decontamination areas and equipment in accordance with established schedules.
Medical Equipment Disposal and Waste Management
· Identify and segregate waste medical equipment and associated materials according to their waste classification and risk.
· Assist with the safe disposal of end-of-life, damaged, contaminated or non-reusable medical equipment.
· Separate general waste, recyclable materials, hazardous waste, clinical/infectious waste and other controlled waste as required by site procedures.
· Ensure waste is correctly packaged, labelled and stored securely before collection by authorised waste contractors.
· Maintain waste disposal records, transfer documentation and other required records in accordance with company procedures and applicable UK requirements.
· Follow procedures for the safe handling of sharps and report any sharps or hazardous waste concerns immediately.
· Prevent unauthorised disposal, mixing of incompatible waste streams and environmental contamination.
· Assist with waste audits and support initiatives to reduce waste and increase recycling where appropriate.
· Escalate spills, leaks, damaged containers or suspected contamination immediately and follow site emergency procedures.
· Ensure any data-bearing medical equipment is segregated and handled in accordance with company information security and disposal procedures.
Health, Safety and Compliance
· Comply with all company health and safety policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
· Follow relevant UK requirements relating to waste management, hazardous substances, manual handling, workplace safety and environmental protection.
· Work in accordance with infection prevention and control procedures.
· Wear and maintain the PPE provided for specific tasks.
· Report accidents, incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and damaged equipment promptly.
· Participate in mandatory training, toolbox talks, audits and competency assessments.
· Follow all procedures relating to the handling, storage and disposal of medical and potentially contaminated equipment.
General Responsibilities
· Work effectively as part of the Operations and Warehouse team.
· Support colleagues during busy periods and assist with other reasonable duties within the scope of the role.

Person Specification
Essential
· Experience of working in a warehouse, operations, logistics, cleaning or similar practical environment.
· Ability to follow detailed procedures and instructions accurately.
· Good awareness of health and safety requirements.
· Ability to carry out physically active duties, including standing, moving and handling equipment safely.
· Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Basic IT and record-keeping skills.
· Willingness to undertake training in decontamination, infection control, manual handling and waste management.
· Reliable, responsible and able to work safely in a regulated environment.
Desirable
· Previous experience handling medical equipment or working in a healthcare-related environment.
· Experience of decontamination or infection prevention procedures.
· Knowledge of clinical, hazardous or controlled waste segregation.
· Experience using warehouse management or stock control systems.

Working Conditions
The role involves working in warehouse and decontamination environments and may require regular lifting, moving, standing and handling of medical equipment. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided. The post holder may be required to handle potentially contaminated equipment and waste, strictly in accordance with risk assessments, safe systems of work and approved decontamination and disposal procedures.
