We're Looking for an Experienced Senior Who Can Hit the Ground Running
Living at Home is an award-winning home care provider supporting people throughout Swansea and the surrounding communities.
We are strengthening our management and care team and are looking for an experienced, confident and highly proactive Senior Home Care Assistant.
This is not simply a Home Care Assistant position with a different job title.
We need someone who can lead from the front, make decisions, solve problems, support other carers and get things done without needing to be constantly managed.
If you're an experienced care professional who likes taking responsibility and being the person others can rely on, this could be the role for you.
The Package
£16.00 per hour – Monday to Sunday
Plus:
- 50p per mile mileage allowance
- Travel time paid at National Minimum Wage
- Ongoing training and professional development
- Support from an experienced management team
- Opportunities to develop further within Living at Home
What We're Looking For
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- A minimum Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent
- Previous experience working within the care sector
- Experience in a senior, supervisory or leadership capacity
- Strong knowledge of good care practice
- Confidence working independently and making decisions
- Good IT and digital skills
- Excellent organisation and communication skills
- A full driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle
- The flexibility required to work across our service
- The ability to participate in the on-call rota
Most importantly, you need to be reliable, proactive and flexible.
Full Availability Is Essential
This position attracts our senior premium rate because we need someone who can provide the flexibility the role requires.
You will need to offer full availability across our operating window of 7:00am to 11:00pm, Monday to Sunday, including the ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
This does not mean you will work from 7:00am until 11:00pm every day.
It means we are looking for somebody who has the flexibility to work across those operating hours and who can respond when the service needs senior support.
Home care can change quickly. A member of staff may become unavailable, a client may require additional support or an unexpected situation may arise.
We therefore need a Senior who is prepared to step in, respond and go where they're needed, sometimes at short notice.
If your availability is heavily restricted, this particular position is unlikely to be suitable.
What Will You Be Doing?
This is a varied role combining hands-on care with senior responsibilities.
You will continue to work directly with clients while also providing practical support to carers and the management team.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Delivering high-quality care in clients' homes
- Supporting and guiding Home Care Assistants
- Acting as a first point of support for carers when appropriate
- Responding to problems and unexpected situations
- Participating in the on-call rota
- Covering care calls when operationally required
- Completing staff spot checks
- Supporting staff supervisions and competency monitoring
- Supporting client reviews
- Identifying concerns and escalating them appropriately
- Helping ensure care plans and company procedures are followed
- Supporting new members of staff
- Helping maintain standards across the care team
- Communicating effectively with clients, families and colleagues
- Completing records and other administrative tasks using our digital systems
- Supporting the Care Managers and wider management team with operational tasks when required
The Type of Senior We’re Looking For
We are looking for an experienced Senior Home Care Assistant who is confident, organised, proactive and able to take ownership of their responsibilities.
The role requires someone who can manage their workload effectively, respond appropriately to changing situations and use their judgement when supporting clients, carers and the wider management team.
You should be comfortable taking responsibility for tasks from start to finish, communicating clearly, following through on agreed actions and contributing positively to the day-to-day running of the service.
You will be fully supported by the management team, but we are looking for someone who is ready to bring experience, initiative and confidence to the role from day one.
You'll Need to Be Comfortable with Technology
Good IT skills are essential.
Living at Home uses digital systems as part of the day-to-day management of our care service.
You should be comfortable using:
- Laptops and computers
- Smartphones and apps
- Email
- Digital care records
- Online staff and client systems
- Microsoft Office or similar software
You don't need to be an IT expert, but you must be confident learning and using systems without needing continual assistance.
The Person We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is:
- Experienced
- Dependable
- Proactive
- Organised
- Confident
- Resilient
- Technically capable
- Professional
- Flexible
- Supportive but able to be firm when required
You should be comfortable having difficult conversations, reinforcing expected standards and supporting colleagues to follow policies and procedures.
You also need to understand that being a Senior means occasionally stepping forward when things don't go according to plan.
