Café Assistant (Experienced) – Permanent Position
Hours: Full Time, 40H per week.
Location: National Library of Scotland
Availability: Cafe open 6 days from 09.00. Saturday work is required.
Pay: Starting from £14.00 per hour, rising depending on experience
We are looking for an experienced Café Assistant to join our friendly and busy café team on a permanent, long-term basis. Must have previous experience working in the cafe / hospitality industry.. This role is ideal for someone with strong front-of-house experience and also someone who has experience working in cafe kitchens, someone who takes pride in excellent customer service , great food and enjoys working as part of a team.
Kitchen experience is required, we serve a range of hot and cold meals such as morning breakfast options, toasted sandwiches, homemade soups, fresh sandwiches, salads, a selection of homemade scones and traybakes. All salads, fillings and soups are made fresh. All training is provided. You must have experience of making fresh bagels, baguettes, focaccia, and sandwiches. All prep is done onsite fresh daily, speed, accuracy and efficiency at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Front of House:
- Providing warm, friendly, and professional customer service
- Serving customers efficiently and confidently
- Operating the POS/till system and handling payments accurately
- Serving food and drinks to a high standard
- Clearing and cleaning tables promptly
- Keeping the front-of-house area organised, clean, and well presented
- Ensuring fridges are fully stocked, labelled, and tidy
Kitchen Duties:
Preparing orders as they come through, for example - fresh fillings, fresh salads, baguettes, sandwiches, breakfast rolls, toasted sandwiches, and general café-style food
- Organising the kitchen, preparing fillings and fresh sandwiches, food preparation and kitchen duties as required
- Maintaining cleanliness and food safety standards, adhering to all house rules
About You:
Previous café or hospitality experience is essential
Confident working front of house in a busy environment
- Comfortable using POS systems
- Organised, reliable, and able to work well under pressure
- A team player who can also use their initiative
- Kitchen experience is an advantage but not essential – full training will be provided
