Estates Operative
Location: Fareham or Romsey with requirement to travel
Contracted hours: 37 hours per week
Working hours: Core working hours are 8.00am – 4.00 Monday to Thursday, and 8.00am – 3.30pm Friday. However, cover hours range from 6.00am start to 10.00pm finish depending on location and cover requirements.
Weeks per year: 52 weeks
Salary: £37,710.40 - £41,327.52 per annum - plus up to £10,000 allowance for specialist skills and/or relevant qualifications in a trade such as an Electrician, Gas Engineer, or Carpenter.
We are seeking a flexible and proactive individual to provide high-quality site management support across our Trust schools. This varied role involves covering Site Managers/Assistants during absence, alongside carrying out maintenance, grounds, and decorating work to ensure safe, compliant, and well-maintained environments.
As the Estates Operative you will be primarily based from either Cams Hill Secondary School in Fareham or The Romsey School in Romsey with a requirement to travel to other schools within the trust as and when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide full site management cover across Trust schools during periods of absence/sickness.
- Undertake all duties expected of a Site Manager, including opening and securing premises.
- Manage site safety and respond to emergencies.
- Liaise with contractors and oversee works on site.
- Carry out general maintenance tasks including minor repairs.
- Complete reactive and preventative maintenance.
- Maintain school grounds including grass cutting and hedge trimming.
- Carry out internal and external decorating tasks.
- Travel between sites and work flexibly as required.
Additional duties for qualification(s) holder:
Where the postholder holds a recognised trade qualification, they will be expected to undertake duties relevant to that trade across the Trust as required. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Electrical works for those qualified as electricians
- Carpentry and joinery works for those qualified in carpentry
- Gas-related works for those qualified in gas engineering
About You
- Experience in site management or maintenance roles.
- Practical maintenance or trade skills.
- Ability to work independently and adapt quickly.
- Basic health and safety knowledge.
- Highly organised with strong prioritisation skills.
- Experience working in a school is desirable
- Full UK driving license.
