Job Introduction
UK Logistics Manager
Head Office Based | Chesterfield | Competitive Salary + Benefits
Lead the Network. Own the Outcome. Keep Britain Fuelled.
AvantiGas is looking for an experienced Logistics Manager to lead our UK Logistics team from Chesterfield, taking ownership of transport operations across our national depot network and driving the operational excellence that keeps our customers supplied.
We are looking for a confident, hands-on leader who thrives on solving complex logistics challenges: someone who can balance cost, service and compliance, use data to drive smarter decisions, and lead a team that is genuinely engaged in delivering for the customer.
As UK Logistics Manager, you will own the Logistics activity for AvantiGas, reporting directly to the UK Head of Operations & Logistics and leading a team of nine, including six direct reports.
You will be responsible for a network of 16 depots across the UK, a secondary fleet of 75 vehicles (including 3PL), and the delivery of approximately 145,000 tons of product each year, with accountability for a £10 million annual 3PL partnership budget.
Working closely with Operational Leads, Supply, Bulk Sales and Customer Experience, you will shape network strategy, drive continuous improvement, and ensure our logistics operation runs at the most efficient cost to serve.
This is more than an operational management role: it is a highly visible leadership position with genuine scope to influence strategy, challenge the norm, and deliver lasting change across the network.
-
Manage daily dispatching, route planning and fleet scheduling to ensure peak resource utilisation across multiple depots.
-
Lead, develop and motivate the Logistics team, building a high-performing, accountable and engaged culture.
-
Use data analytics to eliminate supply chain bottlenecks, optimise routing and reduce empty miles.
-
Collaborate with operational leads to find cost improvements and efficiencies across the secondary network.
-
Lead tactical S&OP workstreams, working with Supply to optimise our supply footprint in line with demand.
-
Provide organisational technical expertise on all logistics activity, driving continuous improvement and challenging the norm.
-
Work with Bulk Sales to support new business opportunities alongside best-in-class service for our current customer base.
-
Continually assess network strategy and efficiency opportunities to improve cost to serve.
-
A confident, hands-on leader with a track record of setting direction, motivating teams and holding people to clear standards and KPIs.
-
Strong operational logistics expertise across primary and secondary logistics, fleet utilisation and depot-based operations.
-
Experience managing 3PL partners, including setting performance expectations and holding partners accountable for cost, service and compliance.
-
Commercial and P&L experience, with a clear understanding of cost-per-tonne, budget management and the financial levers that improve efficiency.
-
Working knowledge of relevant transport legislation and compliance frameworks.
-
A continuous improvement mindset, confident using data and KPIs to identify and act on opportunities.
-
Strong collaboration skills, comfortable working across CE, commercial, engineering, supply chain and customer service teams.
-
Experience contributing to or leading S&OP processes.
-
Transport Manager CPC.
In return, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, along with the opportunity to lead a critical function within a growing, national business. You will have genuine scope to shape strategy, visible senior stakeholder exposure, and the chance to make a lasting impact on how we serve our customers.
