We are seeking a dedicated Nursery Cook here at Smartie Land Day Nursery. As an ever growing nursery we are invested in delivering high-quality home cooked food that follows the updated EYFS nutritional guidance. This role involves meal preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring food safety standards are upheld. The candidate must have an in depth understanding of catering for children with allergies. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of basic cooking and/or catering with an ability to interact and support children during their meal times being a further attribute. Previous restaurant or kitchen experience preferred but not essential as all training will be provided. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop culinary skills within a professional environment and could suit a working parent with the standard working day running 7.30am-2pm. Childcare availability information available on request if necessary.
We do have a kitchen assistant who is in the kitchen from 8-10am to help support the preparation of the main lunch meal, pudding and morning snack.
Responsibilities
- Food preparation and meal assembly in accordance with recipes and safety standards
- Support the cooking process by preparing ingredients and basic dishes, catering for around 60 children each day.
- Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen areas, including work surfaces, utensils, and equipment
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations at all times
- Organise storage of ingredients and supplies to ensure freshness and accessibility
- Serve food to children and staff in a courteous, supportive and efficient manner
- Assist with stock checks and inventory management as required
- Provide support with ordering and stock take
Qualifications
- Previous experience in catering or kitchen environments is essential
- Knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, and food safety standards desirable
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to details such as allergens necessary
- Good organisational skills and the ability to follow instructions accurately
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
