Ritual Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee roaster and café operator based in the Cotswolds, with roots in Cheltenham. We're a B Corp business, which means the way we source, roast, and serve matters as much as the end result. We're building out a new kitchen team and looking for a Sous Chef to help lead it.
The Role
You'll work alongside a second Sous Chef, reporting to the Head Chef, as part of a newly structured kitchen team. This is a hands-on second-in-command role: running sections, keeping standards tight during service, and stepping up to lead the kitchen whenever the Head Chef isn't on site.
It's a great opportunity to grow with a kitchen from an early stage, with real scope to take on more responsibility as the team and business develop.
What You'll Do
- Support the Head Chef in running day-to-day kitchen operations, stepping in to lead service in their absence
- Deliver consistent, high-quality food across a busy café site, maintaining pace and standards under pressure
- Help train, guide, and motivate junior kitchen staff
- Assist with menu development, prep planning, and dish costing
- Help manage stock, ordering, and supplier relationships, minimising waste in line with our B Corp values
- Uphold food hygiene, allergen, and health & safety standards at all times
- Contribute ideas and feedback as part of a small, collaborative kitchen team
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a Sous Chef, Chef de Partie ready to step up, or similar, ideally in a café, brunch, or all-day dining setting
- Confidence running sections and leading a shift when needed
- Solid grounding in food hygiene and safety (Level 2 Food Hygiene minimum, Level 3 desirable)
- A collaborative, calm-under-pressure approach to kitchen life
- Genuine interest in quality, sustainably sourced food — and ideally an appreciation for specialty coffee
- Willingness to grow into more responsibility as the kitchen team develops
What We Offer
- The chance to help build a kitchen team from the ground up at a growing, values-led independent business
- A B Corp workplace that takes sourcing, sustainability, and people seriously
- Staff discount on food, drink, and coffee
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience
Pay: £25,420.00-£42,148.85 per year
Benefits:
- Company events
- Company pension
- Discounted or free food
- Employee discount
- Employee stock purchase plan
- Flexible schedule
- Free parking
- On-site parking
- Store discount
