Band 7 Senior Specialist Gastroenterology Dietitian (Primary Care Network)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our gastroenterology team at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust to establish integrated care transformation. We have a vacancy for 1 full time Band 7 position for 12 months, with potential to extend. This new role will work alongside another band 7 specialist dietitian to develop a new innovative service that provides a dietetic-led gastroenterology service in a primary care supporting patients with diagnosis of gastrointestinal conditions e.g. IBS and coeliac disease. This role will predominantly work in primary care in Lambeth and Southwark (South East London). First Contact Practitioner (FCP) Training will be available or applicants with previous FCP training are welcome to apply.
The post holder will be part of the gastroenterology dietetic team who specialise in disorders of gut brain axis/irritable bowel syndrome (DGBI/IBS), pelvic floor dysfunction (PF), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), women’s health and integrated care transformation.
The gastroenterology dietetic team consists of an 8C Consultant medical gastroenterology Dietitian, a band 8A clinical lead, a band 8A dietitian integrated care lead dietitian, 4x band 7 dietitians, 2x band 6 dietitians and a band 4 dietetic assistant.
Work independently to assess, diagnose, triage, and manage patients, taking responsibility for prioritising and managing a caseload of the PCN’s registered patients. There should be appropriate timely escalation where management of patients is outside the scope of practice.
Provide leadership to primary care MDTs on dietary management of gastroenterology conditions (including support to Health Coaches and Social Prescribers). This will include the provision of highly specialist advice on issues ranging from the provision of expert opinion on individual patient treatment options, to being a contributor to dietetic and related pathway development.
Lead on and develop effective communication between primary care services, PCNs and other relevant care providers. Educate on the role of the Dietetic-led pathways including its impact on referral patterns and patient care pathways.
Build and maintain strong relationships with relevant consultant teams, for example, gastroenterology, cardiovascular, diabetes and acute general medicine as appropriate, community MDTs and Nutrition and Dietetic services in community and acute settings.
The post holder will measure outcomes of this new service, aiming to identify and feedback areas for future development.

This is a highly complex service, delivering highly specialised Dietetics as part of clinical services across the Trust, and into the Community, including providing professional guidance for our catering services and ensuring our compliance with Nutrition Standards for the Trust.
