Sales Assistant
We are seeking a driven, customer-focused Sales Assistant to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in the builders merchant or construction supply sector who enjoys building strong customer relationships, identifying sales opportunities, and delivering outstanding service.
You will play a key role in supporting both trade and retail customers, managing customer accounts, processing orders and quotations, and helping to drive sales growth across the business. Working closely with our sales team, you will be a trusted point of contact for customers and contribute to the continued success of our branch.
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday
- 7:30am – 4:30pm or 8:00am – 5:00pm
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome customers into the branch and provide knowledgeable product advice.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with trade and retail customers.
- Handle incoming enquiries via telephone, email, and in person.
- Prepare quotations, process orders, and follow up sales opportunities.
- Support account management activities and identify opportunities to increase sales.
- Work closely with senior sales managers to support business development initiatives.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with stock control and merchandising displays.
- Ensure a high standard of customer service at all times.
- Maintain accurate customer and sales records using internal systems.
Requirements
- Proven experience within a builders merchant, construction supply, or related trade environment.
- Strong knowledge of building materials and the construction supply chain.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Professional and confident telephone manner.
- Commercially minded with a proactive approach to sales and relationship building.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Good IT skills and experience using sales or merchant systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop.
Desirable
- Experience using merchant software systems.
- Previous internal sales, counter sales, or account management experience.
