Role Purpose
We are looking for a practical, reliable and proactive Maintenance Technician to take responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of all bakery and warehouse equipment.
The role is focused on keeping equipment safe, reliable and available for production and warehouse operations. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns, identify recurring issues and work with the wider team to minimise downtime.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys fault finding, problem solving and taking ownership of equipment and maintenance standards.
You will work closely with Bakery, Warehouse and Operations teams to ensure maintenance activities support the needs of the wider business while maintaining high standards of health & safety, food safety and housekeeping.

Key Responsibilities
Planned Preventative Maintenance
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with the maintenance schedule and manufacturer recommendations.
- Complete routine inspections to identify wear, damage or potential failures before they result in breakdowns.
- Ensure servicing and preventative maintenance activities are completed within required timescales.
- Develop a strong understanding of individual pieces of equipment and their maintenance requirements.
- Support the development and improvement of preventative maintenance schedules.
- Ensure maintenance records are completed accurately and promptly.
Breakdown Response & Repairs
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns across the bakery and warehouse.
- Diagnose faults methodically and complete effective repairs to minimise operational downtime.
- Prioritise breakdowns according to safety and operational impact.
- Communicate clearly with operational teams regarding equipment faults, repairs and availability.
- Test equipment following repairs to ensure it is safe and operating correctly before returning it to service.
- Take ownership of maintenance issues through to satisfactory resolution.
Equipment Reliability & Fault Finding
- Identify recurring faults and implement practical solutions to improve equipment reliability.
- Investigate the root cause of repeat equipment failures rather than repeatedly repairing the same problem.
- Monitor equipment condition and highlight areas requiring attention or investment.
- Recommend modifications or improvements that could increase reliability, safety or efficiency.
- Work with equipment manufacturers and suppliers where additional technical support is required.
Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance
- Maintain, service and repair bakery, production and warehouse equipment.
- Maintain and repair mechanical components including motors, bearings, belts, chains, pumps and gearboxes.
- Carry out adjustments and replacement of worn or damaged components.
- Maintain mechanical and, where competent and authorised, electrical systems and components.
- Support electrical fault finding where appropriately trained and competent.
- Ensure work outside your level of competence is referred to an appropriately qualified person or contractor.
Equipment Installation & Commissioning
- Support the installation and commissioning of new or replacement equipment.
- Assist with equipment testing following installation.
- Work with manufacturers, suppliers and external contractors during equipment installations.
- Ensure new equipment is incorporated into appropriate preventative maintenance schedules.
- Help ensure relevant manuals, technical information and spare parts requirements are documented.
Spare Parts & Maintenance Stock
- Maintain appropriate stocks of critical spare parts and maintenance consumables.
- Identify critical components that should be held in stock to minimise potential downtime.
- Monitor parts usage and arrange replenishment through the appropriate purchasing process.
- Keep maintenance stock organised and appropriately stored.
- Use parts, materials and maintenance consumables responsibly.
Contractors & Suppliers
- Liaise with equipment manufacturers, suppliers and external contractors when specialist support is required.
- Provide appropriate information regarding faults and equipment history.
- Support contractors while working on site.
- Ensure contractors follow relevant site safety, hygiene and operational procedures.
- Review completed work before equipment is returned to normal operation where appropriate.
Maintenance Records
- Keep accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections and parts used.
- Record planned preventative maintenance activities.
- Document equipment breakdowns and corrective actions.
- Record recurring faults and improvements made.
- Maintain relevant servicing and inspection records.
- Ensure maintenance documentation is clear, accurate and completed promptly.
Health & Safety
- Ensure maintenance work is completed safely and in accordance with site procedures and relevant health & safety standards.
- Follow appropriate isolation and lock-off procedures before working on machinery.
- Ensure machinery guards, emergency stops and other safety systems remain in good working order.
- Never bypass or compromise equipment safety systems.
- Report hazards, unsafe equipment, accidents and near misses promptly.
- Use appropriate PPE and safe working methods.
- Ensure tools and maintenance equipment are kept in safe working condition.
- Stop and escalate work where there is a risk to people, equipment or the business.
Food Safety & Hygiene
- Ensure maintenance work is completed in accordance with site food safety requirements.
- Follow all hygiene, food safety and allergen procedures when working within bakery areas.
- Ensure maintenance activities do not create contamination risks.
- Use appropriate food-safe materials and lubricants where required.
- Control tools, parts and maintenance materials when working within production areas.
- Ensure equipment and surrounding areas are left clean and safe following maintenance.
- Work with Bakery and Hygiene teams where equipment requires cleaning or sanitising before being returned to production.
- Support internal and external food safety audits where maintenance information is required.
Housekeeping
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping in maintenance areas.
- Keep tools, spare parts and maintenance equipment organised.
- Ensure tools are returned to their designated locations after use.
- Remove maintenance waste and replaced components promptly.
- Leave bakery and warehouse work areas clean, tidy and safe following maintenance activities.
Cross-Department Working
- Work closely with Bakery, Warehouse and Operations teams.
- Schedule planned maintenance with minimal disruption to normal operations wherever possible.
- Communicate equipment issues clearly with relevant team leaders and managers.
- Understand operational priorities when planning maintenance activities.
- Provide practical technical support and advice where appropriate.
- Build positive working relationships across the business.
Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements to equipment, maintenance routines and working practices that could improve safety, reliability or efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to reduce equipment breakdowns and operational downtime.
- Improve preventative maintenance routines based on equipment history and experience.
- Identify opportunities to extend equipment life.
- Suggest practical modifications that could improve equipment performance.
- Highlight equipment that may require replacement or future investment.
- Share learning from breakdowns and recurring faults to help prevent similar problems.

Hours & Working Pattern
This is a permanent, 38-hour-per-week position, worked across four days per week.
The Maintenance Technician will also be required to work one Saturday per quarter, allowing planned servicing, preventative maintenance and larger maintenance tasks to be completed when disruption to normal operations can be minimised.
Some reasonable flexibility may occasionally be required to respond to urgent equipment failures or operational requirements.
