Technical Asset Manager – Infrastructure & Real Estate
Location: UK (Hybrid with travel to sites as required)
Salary: £75K – £85K, 20% bonus, 10% pension contribution, 30 days annual leave
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a leading infrastructure investor and asset management business with responsibility for providing technical engineering expertise across a diverse portfolio of operational infrastructure and real estate assets.
This is a high-profile role within a growing asset management function, offering the opportunity to influence strategic investment decisions, optimise asset performance and support the delivery of significant capital expenditure programmes across a varied portfolio of long-term concession assets.
Working closely with Asset Managers, project stakeholders and external advisors, you will provide engineering-led solutions for asset replacement, technical assurance and lifecycle investment planning, ensuring risks are effectively managed whilst delivering value for investors.
The Role
As Technical Asset Manager, you will provide engineering, technical and commercial expertise across the portfolio, supporting lifecycle planning, capital investment and operational asset performance.
You will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, project companies, contractors and consultants to ensure lifecycle works are appropriately planned, procured and delivered in accordance with contractual requirements and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and support the preparation of annual 1-year and 5-year lifecycle investment plans.
- Provide technical assurance and engineering advice across a portfolio of operational infrastructure assets.
- Monitor capital expenditure programmes, tracking progress against approved lifecycle plans.
- Assess lifecycle expenditure requests to ensure contractual compliance, value for money and appropriate risk management.
- Prepare technical specifications, project briefs, scopes of work and procurement documentation for capital works.
- Support the procurement and delivery of lifecycle replacement projects.
- Develop and manage relationships with specialist consultants, contractors and technical advisors.
- Undertake technical assurance reviews and engineering audits across the portfolio.
- Benchmark asset performance and lifecycle costs, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiencies.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations for senior stakeholders and project boards.
- Support strategic asset management initiatives designed to enhance long-term asset performance and shareholder value.
About You
We're looking for an experienced engineering or technical asset management professional with a strong understanding of operational infrastructure environments.
You'll ideally bring:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Building Services, Construction, Asset Management or a related technical discipline.
- Experience working within operational infrastructure, PFI/PPP, facilities management or asset management environments.
- Strong understanding of lifecycle planning, capital expenditure and asset replacement programmes.
- Experience preparing technical specifications, scopes of work and procurement documentation.
- Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical risk and investment decisions.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including experience presenting technical information to senior audiences.
- Ability to work independently whilst managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution would be advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence.
