We have an exciting opportunity for a band 4 Senior Therapies Technical Instructor (STTI) to join our established team of therapists to work in the Macmillan therapy team at Northampton General Hospital.
The team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Support Staff and you will be supported by the registered staff in the role and encouraged to develop your knowledge and skills within the area of oncology and haematology.
The successful candidate will be able to provide support to the multi-disciplinary team on the oncology/haematology wards in the day to day assessments of patients and delivery of therapy treatment programmes.
Band 4 STTI’s work autonomously, guided by Therapists, to enable patients to reach a level of independence prior to discharge.
Good communication skills, verbal and written, and commitment to team working within a fast-paced environment is essential. As well as recent experience of working in an acute setting and moving and handling of patients.
This post has some non-clinical responsibilities e.g. ordering and maintaining equipment stock levels, inputting data onto the IT systems and other administrative duties as required.
Regular supervision, competency and performance reviews and continued personal development are actively encouraged.

Actively provide therapy care for patients as part of the multi-disciplinary team at NGH
Provide specific evidence-based assessments and treatments under the indirect supervision of qualified therapist using a therapy framework
Provide technical skills to assist a qualified Therapist in treating oncology and haematology patients
Provide therapy care to in-patients and occasionally patients in their own homes
Have access to, read, and understand medical notes and information from the MDT to inform decision making regarding suitability for intervention
Be able to interpret clinical observations and understand the implications of therapy interventions
Represent Therapies at ward board rounds, gaining information to feedback to the qualified Therapists and communicating any relevant Therapy updates relating to patients

Manage and delegate day to day work tasks; prioritise work with reference to the Directorate’s and team’s plans; therapy goals and staffing levels.
Work with therapists across all of the service as required.
Work flexibly to provide cover to other clinical areas according to the needs of patients and demands of the service.
Assist therapists in arranging and providing in-service training, study days etc.
Assist the therapists in ensuring working conditions are kept optimal, or where not, dealt with appropriately.
Trust Wide Responsibilities
Act as a resource for members of the multi-disciplinary teams across the Trust through involvement in multi professional teaching and training in the area of expertise.
Act as a role model in customer service towards patients, visitors and staff in the hospital
Regularly attend and participate in care group and professional meetings.
