Sunflowers Care is looking for a full-time (36 hours per week), Registered Nurse to join our exceptional team of dedicated staff. We provide care for children and young people with Complex Health Needs, including Long Term Ventilation, in an innovative, holistic and welcoming 'home from home' environment.
The successful candidate will lead a small, multi-disciplinary team around a child/young person, providing supervision, guidance, mentoring and support for colleagues and ensuring that the child/young person receives the best possible care and quality of life.

Senior Nurse Duties include
- Work without supervision, ensuring accountability in accordance with the NMC code: Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives.
- Act as a resource for all the members of the multi-disciplinary team, providing supervision, guidance and support for quality improvement initiatives.
- Provide a telephone ‘on-call’ service out of hours.
- Assess the child/young person’s health and wellbeing, reporting any changes and taking appropriate measures to maintain their health.
- Plan, allocate and supervise the work of the team to provide optimum support to the child/young person and their family in a timely manner.
- Participate in the training, support and mentoring of new staff; work alongside student nurses on placement and complete the necessary documentation.
- Manage use of time, ensuring the requirements of each shift are prioritised and met.
- Communicate with the management team regarding the workload of the key-working team.
- Provide a role model for Nurses and Health Care Support Workers.
- Maintain adequate stock levels.
- Organise and run Team training days; appraise junior staff.
Other Nurse Duties:
- Promote the health and comfort of the children and young people, maintaining their privacy and dignity to promote their quality of life.
- Assess, plan and deliver a high standard of care, using techniques and interventions to promote the child/young person’s independence.
- Use techniques and interventions to promote independence
- Communicate effectively with children using communication techniques to meet their unique and individual needs.
- Communicate well with families, colleagues and other health and care professionals, imparting information and knowledge at an appropriate level to ensure safety and continuity of care.
- Work effectively as part of the team, respecting the individuality of each colleague and actively contributing to the planning and co-ordination of care.
- Administer medications accurately and safely, following prescribed protocols.
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records in accordance with healthcare regulations.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organisation of the environment and perform domestic duties such as food preparation and cleaning to support the care of the children.
- Adhere strictly to infection control protocols and health & safety standards.
- Participate in regular competency training and assessment; support and educate other members of the team.
Knowledge and experience
- Current registration with NMC.
- RNC or RNLD/RN with relevant skills, experience and qualification.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and its application.
- Extensive post registration clinical experience, e.g. with tracheostomies, clinical care of children and young people in different settings.
- Experience of working with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience of mentoring and/or teaching junior staff and team leadership.
- Good theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing within the speciality.
- Knowledge of clinical governance, health and safety, safeguarding and infection control.
- Excellent care skills with a compassionate approach towards individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and a clear understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care and to plan, organise and prioritise workload.
- Leadership aptitude and positive role modelling.
- Ability to take initiative, identify problems and solutions.
- A professional, positive and enthusiastic attitude with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Supportive of senior team, colleagues, children and families.
- A clear understanding of the importance of safeguarding and reporting responsibilities.
- Commitment and willingness to complete leadership skills training.
- Flexibility to work in line with the service requirements.
