About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Recycling Manager to support the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of our recycling site. This role includes acting as deputy to the Site Manager when required, ensuring that consistent standards, procedures, and control measures are maintained at all times.
You will be responsible for managing incoming materials, ensuring all waste streams are processed correctly, and maintaining strong health and safety, environmental, and operational performance across the site. The ideal candidate will be organised, adaptable, and an effective communicator with a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Site Manager in the efficient and cost-effective operation of the facility, maximising gate fees, throughput, and recycling revenues while minimising costs.
- Conduct daily and weekly Health & Safety audits and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Employment Rights Act 1996, and all relevant legislation.
- Achieve and, where possible, exceed all site KPIs.
- Ensure accurate reporting, including DAL reporting and all site documentation.
- Maintain full compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and company policies.
- Mentor, develop, and train operational staff to support their professional growth and performance.
- Provide hands-on leadership and day-to-day management of site operatives.
- Monitor incoming and outgoing material quality throughout the working day.
- Oversee and optimise cutting line performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct perimeter inspections to ensure site cleanliness and security, arranging repairs or clean-up activities where required.
- Manage and reduce site waste in line with business objectives.
- Oversee daily production output to ensure operational targets are achieved.
- Maintain and promote high housekeeping standards across the site.
- Ensure quality control standards are met for outgoing products and baling/separation processes.
- Work collaboratively with customers, contractors, and partners, adhering to agreed procedures and site requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the Site Manager.
Essential Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Minimum of 5 years' management experience within an operational environment.
- Strong leadership, people management, and communication skills.
- Competent in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
- Ability to create and maintain a positive, performance-driven site culture.
- Proven experience managing operational teams, targets, and KPIs.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Desirable
- Valid FLT (Forklift Truck) licence.
- Experience within the recycling, waste management, or resource recovery sector.
- WAMITAB qualification (training and support can be provided for the right candidate).
Working Hours
- Five days over the course of Monday to Saturday (Saturday with notice): 7:00am – 4:30pm.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours in line with business requirements may be necessary.

- Oldham, Greater Manchester.
- Applicants must be able to reliably commute to Oldham or be willing to relocate.

Pay: £33,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
