The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you'll work closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to provide personalised support for pupils with a range of complex learning needs, helping them to develop confidence, independence and essential life skills.
Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups across the curriculum.

Helping to deliver personalised learning programmes and Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.

Encouraging communication, independence, emotional wellbeing, and positive social interactions.

Preparing classroom resources and creating engaging learning environments.

Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to support pupil progress.

Supporting pupils with personal care and medical needs where required, always ensuring dignity and respect.

Using positive behaviour support strategies to encourage engagement and successful learning.

Recording observations and contributing to pupil assessments and progress reviews.

Supervising pupils during breaktimes, educational visits and other school activities.

Promoting safeguarding, inclusion, and the highest standards of care at all times.

Essential requirements:

Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEND, or a background in health, social care, or support work.

A patient, compassionate and positive approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues, working independently and as part of a team.

Willingness to provide personal care and support medical needs following appropriate training.

Flexible, resilient, and adaptable, with a strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and equality.
Desirable requirements:
-
Experience supporting pupils with severe, profound, or complex learning needs, including autism, sensory, communication or physical disabilities.

Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE qualification or equivalent.

Knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies, EHCPs and communication systems such as Makaton or PECS.
-
First Aid, Moving and Handling, Team Teach, PRICE or similar training (or a willingness to complete training).
