About Groundlord Ltd
Groundlord Ltd is a growing specialist arboricultural and vegetation management contractor working across local authorities, utilities, defence and commercial sectors throughout Southern England.
We're looking for an organised, proactive Finance & Payroll Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate financial records, timely payments and excellent support to the wider business.
The Role
This is a varied hands-on position responsible for managing the company's day-to-day financial administration.
You'll be trusted to manage the purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll and banking while working closely with the management team to provide accurate financial information and maintain strong financial controls.
This role would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership, improving processes and being an integral part of a growing business.
Main Responsibilities
Sales Ledger
- Raise customer invoices
- Submit applications for payment
- Monitor customer payments
- Chase outstanding debts where required
- Resolve invoice queries
- Produce debtor reports
Purchase Ledger
- Process supplier invoices
- Match invoices to purchase orders where applicable
- Prepare supplier payment runs
- Reconcile supplier statements
- Deal with supplier queries
- Maintain accurate purchase records
Banking & Cash Management
- Daily bank reconciliations
- Prepare payment runs
- Process BACS payments
- Maintain accurate cashflow forecasts
- Monitor company cash position
- Liaise with banks when required
Payroll
- Process monthly payroll
- Calculate overtime and allowances
- Administer pension contributions
- Process SSP, SMP and holiday pay
- Deal with payroll queries
- Submit payroll information to HMRC
- Ensure payroll deadlines are met
HMRC & Compliance
- Submit VAT returns
- Process CIS where applicable
- Deal with HMRC correspondence
- Maintain payroll compliance
- Assist with year-end processes
- Support external accountants
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly management information
- Maintain financial records
- Assist with budgeting
- Prepare cashflow forecasts
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts
- Support month-end close
General Administration
- Maintain finance systems
- Improve finance processes
- Support operational teams with finance queries
- Produce ad-hoc reports
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
About You
Essential
- Previous experience in a finance role
- Payroll experience
- Excellent knowledge of Sage Payroll/Xero (or similar)
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Organised and able to prioritise workload
- Good communication skills
- Able to work independently
- Professional and trustworthy
Desirable
- AAT qualified or studying
- Experience using Xero
- Experience in construction, contracting or arboriculture
- CIS knowledge
- Credit control experience
- Experience producing cashflow forecasts
