Casual Class 1 HGV Driver – Wagon & Drag | £25 per Hour

The Racing Bug (UK) Ltd is looking for an experienced and reliable Category C+E Class 1 HGV Driver with proven wagon and drag / drawbar trailer experience.
You will drive our company-owned 18-tonne Mercedes Actros rigid truck and drawbar trailer, delivering and collecting specialist equipment from major motorsport, corporate and promotional events throughout the UK.
This is a highly flexible casual role, ideally suited to an experienced driver who is available for regular weekday work as well as Sunday collections.
Typical working pattern
Most events involve two separate return journeys:
- Outbound delivery: Usually Thursday or Friday, approximately 08:00–17:00
- Inbound collection: Usually Sunday, approximately 14:30–22:00
- All shifts start and finish at our base near MK18 2DY
- Occasional additional days may be available by mutual agreement
Most dates are planned well in advance, although some bookings may arise at shorter notice.
Applicants must be able to work regular Thursday or Friday daytime shifts, as well as Sunday afternoon and evening shifts.
Priority will be given to drivers who can commit to at least 10 complete events per year, with each event normally consisting of an outbound delivery and a separate return collection.
Key responsibilities
- Drive an 18-tonne Mercedes Actros rigid vehicle with a drawbar trailer
- Deliver and collect specialist equipment at events throughout the UK
- Complete vehicle safety checks and report any defects
- Ensure loads are transported safely and securely
- Follow drivers’ hours, Working Time Directive and road transport regulations
- Represent the company professionally when attending customer and event sites
- Assist with straightforward vehicle, trailer and load-related duties where required
- Drive company-provided cars or vans on some outward or return legs
This is primarily a driving role. Heavy manual loading is not normally required, although a practical and helpful approach is expected.
Essential requirements
- Valid UK Category C+E driving licence
- Demonstrable experience driving a wagon and drag, drawbar trailer or equivalent combination
- Good knowledge of drivers’ hours and transport compliance
- Availability for both weekday and weekend event dates
- Reliable, punctual and able to commit to agreed bookings
- Comfortable travelling to event venues throughout the UK
- Able to work independently and take responsibility for company vehicles and equipment
Desirable experience
- Event, exhibition, motorsport or promotional transport experience
- Experience driving Mercedes Actros vehicles
- Experience manoeuvring large vehicles at busy or restricted event sites
- Experience with specialist, valuable or unusual loads
- Mechanical, workshop, agricultural or practical maintenance skills

About the role
Our equipment attends major events across the UK, so reliability is essential. Once a driver has committed to an event, we need them to be available for both the outward delivery and the return collection wherever possible.
