The Pennine Breast Screening Programme is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Cancer Screening Improvement Officer to join our team and help make a real difference to breast screening uptake across Bradford, Craven, Calderdale and Kirklees.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about health promotion, reducing health inequalities and improving access to NHS screening services . You will play a key role in identifying communities and GP practices where screening uptake is low, understanding the barriers that prevent women from attending, and developing targeted initiatives to encourage more people to access breast screening.
Working closely with GP practices, primary care teams, community organisations, charities, businesses and NHS partners, you will help deliver innovative and engaging health promotion activities that reach women across our diverse population.
The role offers the opportunity to work across a wide range of settings and communities, with some flexibility required to support health promotion events and meetings outside of standard working hours.
Analyse breast screening uptake data and national health information to identify areas of low attendance and health inequality.
Investigate the reasons why women do not attend screening and support the development of interventions to reduce non-attendance and DNAs.
Develop and deliver health promotion events, presentations, educational sessions and community engagement activities.
Coordinate health promotion projects designed to increase breast screening uptake and reduce late presentation of breast cancer.
Produce reports, action plans and evaluations to demonstrate the impact of health promotion activities and inform service improvement.
Develop and maintain promotional materials, digital resources, website content and social media campaigns.
Work with the Trust Communications Team to support publicity and media activity relating to breast screening.
Respond to national screening campaigns and policy changes, translating national guidance and data into local health promotion initiatives.
Work with the breast screening administration team to support the screening round and identify suitable locations for mobile screening units.
Maintain a strong focus on equality, diversity and health inequalities, ensuring health promotion activity is accessible and responsive to the needs of our local communities.
Engage sensitively with service users who may be anxious or distressed about breast screening, cancer risk or previous non-attendance.

The Cancer Screening Improvement Officer will play a key role in improving breast screening uptake and reducing health inequalities across the Pennine Breast Screening Programme. Working across Bradford, Craven, Calderdale and Kirklees, the post holder will develop and coordinate targeted health promotion initiatives to improve awareness of breast screening and encourage participation among communities where uptake is low.
The post holder will work closely with GP practices, primary care teams, community organisations, charities, local stakeholders and NHS partners to identify barriers to screening and develop effective, evidence-based interventions that respond to the needs of local populations.
