Salary: Dorset Grade 6–9 (£25,989–£27,254 per annum, pending NJC pay award)
Looking for a practical, varied and rewarding career?
We are looking for an enthusiastic, practical and proactive individual to join our dedicated school community as our Premises & Facilities Officer (Caretaker).
Whether you're an experienced school caretaker, work in facilities or maintenance, have a trade background, or are simply someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in maintaining high standards, we'd love to hear from you.
We are a vibrant, all-age specialist school for children and young people aged 2–19 with Complex Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (CLDD). Every day is different, rewarding and full of opportunities to make a genuine difference.
This is far more than a traditional caretaking role. You'll play a vital part in creating a safe, welcoming and inspiring environment where our pupils can thrive.
The Role
You'll be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, presentation and security of our school site, ensuring it remains safe, compliant and welcoming for pupils, staff and visitors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- General maintenance, repairs and DIY across the school.
- Maintaining the appearance and safety of the school grounds.
- Opening, closing and securing the site.
- Supporting contractors and overseeing site works.
- Carrying out routine health and safety checks.
- Helping maintain our on-site swimming and hydrotherapy pools.
- Identifying improvements that enhance our school environment.
No two days are ever the same.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have experience in premises management, site maintenance, caretaking or facilities management and enjoy solving practical problems.
Ideally, you will have:
- Experience of premises or facilities management.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements (NEBOSH or IOSH would be an advantage).
- Experience of pool plant management or a current qualification.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
- A positive, can-do attitude and pride in maintaining high standards.
Don't meet every requirement?
We recognise that the right person doesn't always have every qualification.
If you have strong practical skills, a willingness to learn and are looking to build a long-term career in school premises and facilities management, we'd still encourage you to apply.
Full training and support will be provided for the right candidate, including health and safety and pool plant qualifications where required.
Why Join Us?
- A welcoming, friendly and supportive staff team.
- Excellent training and professional development opportunities.
- Mentoring and induction programme.
- Local Government Pension Scheme.
- Increasing holiday entitlement with length of service.
- Staff wellbeing and counselling support.
- The opportunity to work with incredible children and young people who make every day rewarding.
If you're someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in your environment and wants a role where your work genuinely makes a difference every day, we'd love to hear from you.
Visits to the school are warmly welcomed and encouraged.
