Job Summary
As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you will take a lead role in supporting vulnerable children and young people within a residential care setting. You will act as a role model to junior staff, contribute to care planning, ensure high standards of safeguarding and wellbeing, and help create a nurturing environment that promotes healing, independence, and growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day care and emotional support to children and young people aged 8–18
- Take a lead role in shift planning and overseeing junior staff
- Act as a key worker, developing strong, trusting relationships with specific children
- Monitor and evaluate care plans in line with individual needs and regulatory standards
- Support children through challenging behaviour using trauma-informed approaches
- Administer medication and manage health appointments as required
- Keep accurate and timely records (daily logs, incidents, reports for external professionals)
- Liaise with social workers, schools, therapists, and families to support multi-agency plans
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are followed at all times
- Participate in recruitment, training, mentoring, and supervision of new staff
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential care setting
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, trauma, and child development
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team
- Excellent communication and decision-making skills
- Resilience, compassion, and a calm, consistent approach
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with individuals and their families.
- Ability to develop and follow care plans that meet individual needs.
- A valid driving licence is preferred for transporting individuals when necessary.
- Proficiency in IT systems for record keeping and communication purposes.
- Enhanced DBS clearance
