We are looking for a reliable Waterway Safety Operative / Banksman to work alongside our specialist machine operators on lakes, rivers, canals and ponds across the UK.
This is an entry-level role and no previous machinery operating experience is required.
The primary purpose of the role is site and operator safety. While our machine operator works on the water, you will remain on the bank, maintaining observation of the operator and working area and being available to respond in the event of an emergency.
Main Responsibilities
- Remaining on the bank and maintaining observation of the machine operator
- Acting as the operator's designated safety support while machinery is working on the water
- Monitoring the immediate working area for potential hazards
- Responding appropriately in the event of an incident or emergency
- Providing first aid if required
- Keeping in communication with the machine operator
- Helping maintain a safe working area around members of the public and other site users
- Assisting with general site setup and basic duties where required
Requirements
- First Aid qualification – or willingness to complete the required training
- Reliable, responsible and safety-conscious
- Able to remain attentive for extended periods while machinery is operating
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Comfortable working around lakes, rivers and other bodies of water
- Willing to travel to sites throughout Wales and England
- Full UK driving licence preferred
- Good communication skills
Previous experience in waterway work, construction, landscaping, agriculture, groundworks or similar industries would be useful but is not required.
The role would suit someone looking for outdoor work who is dependable, observant and comfortable taking responsibility for the safety of a colleague working on the water.
Full training on our working procedures and specialist equipment will be provided.
Pay: £120.00-£150.00 per day
