Job Overview
Male support worker required to support a teenage boy in his home and on day trips. This post involves being company for George and supporting his disability-related behavioural and medical needs. Being male is considered a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Equality Act 2010 due to my sons preference of a male due to his disability.
George’s disability is an acquired brain injury. He is physically able but has mental issues that make it difficult for him to build lasting relationships with friends and has regular seizures which prevents him from going out alone with friends due to the risk of a seizure. He has a funny sense of humour but has a complex mind of a 10 year old (this his medical report) but is 15 years old.
The role is adhoc but I will guarantee 15 hours per month minimum. You don’t need a medical background as we can show you how to handle his seizures.
This is about being support to his Dad and step mum when we need someone to watch George while we’re out or be company for him if he wants to go out for a coffee, lunch, pictures, bowling etc to give him some independence away from parents and help support him with independent life skills.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in assisted living, nursing home settings, or home care is preferable but not mandatory
- This is more about personality to understand George and build relationship with him
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings or weekends if necessary
- MUST have a valid driving licence
Pay: £15.00 per hour
