Groundworker / Bricklayer – Extensions & Disabled Adaptation works

Higher End Construction Ltd is looking for an experienced Groundworker / Bricklayer to join our growing construction team.
The successful candidate will initially work on a residential extension in Preston being constructed as part of a disabled adaptation. You must be confident taking responsibility for the groundworks, drainage and masonry package from excavation through to wall plate level.
This is a hands-on role for an experienced tradesperson who can work independently, read drawings, plan the work correctly and consistently deliver a high standard of workmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting out the extension from construction drawings
- Excavating foundation trenches to the required lines and levels
- Preparing foundations for inspection and concreting
- Installing underground drainage, including pipework, chambers and connections
- Installing hardcore, compacted sub-base, sand blinding, DPM, insulation and reinforcement
- Preparing and pouring concrete foundations and floor slabs
- Constructing brick and block cavity walls up to wall plate level
- Installing DPCs, cavity trays, wall ties, insulation and lintels
- Forming openings accurately for doors and windows
- Completing alterations and making good to existing brickwork
- Coordinating inspections with the Site Manager and Building Control
- Maintaining a safe, tidy and professional working environment
- Working respectfully around customers, including elderly and vulnerable residents
Essential Requirements
- Strong, proven experience in both groundworks and bricklaying
- Able to complete foundations, drainage, concrete slabs and masonry without constant supervision
- Able to read and work from construction and structural drawings
- Good knowledge of levels, falls, drainage connections and current building standards
- Experience constructing residential extensions
- High standard of face brickwork and blockwork
- Full UK driving licence
- Valid CSCS card
- Reliable, organised and capable of managing your own workload
- Professional and respectful when working in occupied homes
Desirable
- NVQ or recognised qualification in bricklaying or groundworks
- Excavator, dumper or roller qualification
- Experience working on disabled adaptations, social housing or occupied properties
- Experience supervising a labourer or apprentice
- Asbestos awareness and manual handling training
